Normally a lurker, but I’ll chime in with my feelings. 2022 TRD Pro. Wanted a manual and initially was disappointed with the setup. Clutch felt strange and shifter was too long. Did the clutch accumulator disc modification and installed a short shifter, now I’m very pleased with the results.

I bought an automatic ‘21 TRD off-road brand new off the lot. Drove it until last month when I traded it for a ‘22 manual. No regrets, been wanting the manual for years.

The auto trans was super clunky and never seemed to be in the appropriate gear. I basically drove everywhere in ‘sport’ mode & used the gear limiter (you don’t actually pick the gear you’re in, just the highest gear you want the truck in).

    No issues here.

The manual gearbox is the only option. It makes driving a big heavy slow vehicle slow a lot more fun.

Manuals are hard to find. I had to go outside my state to find one.

I would not have a Tacoma if I had not found one with a manual gearbox. Period.

I only regret it in the prime winter and summer time. No auto start.

2023 TRD Pro 6MT here and I love it. Biggest complaint is that reverse is too high, but the 2lo mod fixed that. I would also like 5th to be a bit lower as I think 5th and 6th are too close together. No regrets at all and the availability of the 6MT is the reason I bought a Tacoma.

My sentiments exactly. I think the 3rd generation is the one to buy if you want a manual (if you can find one). The 4th gen doesn't seem to be an improvement. It fails to take advantage of the low rpm torque that the 2.4L Turbo can produce, and also has a lower redline when compared to the 4th gen automatics.

If can ask, what issues your friend had with manual 23 Tacoma, and how many miles it has?

I'm looking for a manual with a long box/bed in Lunar Rock. Found one in NY and WI but they sold quick, would be a long trip from Tx.

Toyota maybe made a few hundred AC stick TRD Sports a year for the US. They're super rare and they don't trade hands often.

I have a 22 OR and really like the manual. You learn to drive around some of the issues like the accumulator and gearing, but the high ratio reverse is annoying. The 2-lo mod doesn’t seem to be in production currently but maybe someone else will start it up again.

Your only choice will be 2016-2017 SR and 2016 - 2023 Sport, those were the only trim levels with Manual Access Cab long bed combo.

See if your buddy will trade vehicles with you for a week or something. Most people seem to like or at least be OK with theirs, as witnessed here.

...but I spent 8-9 months hunting down the brand new Lunar Rock 6MT of my dreams (when inventory was still spotty at best), and was super disappointed with how it drove. I stuck it out for a month thinking I just needed to adjust. Then maybe one more, why not - it's a big decision and it's hardly broken in. I made it to a year and threw thousands of dollars away trying to get along with it, and finally just threw in the towel after telling myself it's absolute lunacy to have over $50k tied up in a vehicle I don't love. Lack of low end torque was the primary issue, and funky clutch engagement icing on the cake. My only regret going back to a 2G was not being able to buy one new. Well, that, and the five figures I pissed away on sales tax, mods, and drive-off depreciation.

Definitely, would be a reason for a road trip.

There were no Manual Long Beds then, only way to get the longer bed Manual is in the Access Cab.

it's not talked about a lot, but it seems the fine print of the purchase requires you working MANUAL TRANSMISSION into every vehicle conversation, no matter how unrelated the matter at hand is to the transmission type.

for most MANUAL TRANSMISSION owners, this level of piety doesn't seem to bother them that much. but divorce lawyers are standing by.

Nope, they never had a double cab long bed Manual.
