Yeah, globalstar is what my phone uses, not quite as robust but still better than nothing.

Turned 35 last week, only debt is my car, but we rent. You're still fertile into your like, 80's, you got time to find a trophy wife late in life

I used to activate mine when I would only go on trips but when I started riding single track solo more and more often it became more worth it to just keep it active all the time on the "Safety" plan. It's funny for how densely populated NJ is I still find random pockets of Pine Barrens where I hit no service zones. And chances are if I do fuck myself up out there solo and deem it necessary to trigger SOS it will likely be in a spot I have no service.

Now I take my son wheeling with me quite often and tbh it gives me peace of mind just having it.

If I still lived in Washington, I would be on it as I spent a lot of time riding, wheeling and camping in the Gifford. But down here, don't really have a need for it.

I would actually so I don't need to keep passing it between the tacoma, bronco and bike but I just bought another cradle for my inreach 2 so i guess I am just sticking with one device.

I have been looking at their new device that can send data. That would be rad for the trips I am out of cell service but would love to send the wife a pic of a sick campsite or whatever.

LOL 80s..... Not wrong... but there is a time between say 40 and 80 where actually dealing with newborn offspring doesnt sound enjoyable.

Right right. They do have their place and I’ll trust it over the phone version.

That being said, there are places up in the mountains out here that have no service of any kind, so the mini is invaluable at that point. I do go out alone a lot, well.. used to. but still do and it goes with me (jeep and soon to be bike). My work schedule has always been major downfall in trying to make group plans with people in the hills, hence why I bought one years ago and do my own thing. Yeah being solo can suck at times but also even better at times too.

City view from some closer hills. Not street tire friendly at all, loose shale all over. This ride made me miss the usual spot in the woods, slowly figuring out where I need to land.

Basis of what you need is in both these. Do / focus on / figure out what makes you happy first. After that see where you land.

Looking back on my two wheeled adventures the ones that always stuck out the most for neat/fun factor were always the ones of "I shouldnt be here on this bike but here I am". One of the most profound moments of that is almost 20 years ago 2015 august... good lord.... *rabbit hole of where did time go coming back* me and my cousin.... all of 15yrs old at the time with 2 Chinese replica Z50's with 110cc motors in the mammoth lakes area. Camped at Lake George mammoth - highest lake you can get to by paved road at 9250ft in the mammoth lakes basin.

We had to of put 200+ miles a piece on those lil replica bikes in a matter of a 3-4 days ALLLL over the area, legally, up for interpretation? . One morning we decided fuck it, lets see if we can get to Laurel Lakes, got the OK from parents (we might of not told them the whole plan????) and off we went no cell phones, basic tools, just each other. Total travel was all of 30-40mi round trip but it was 10ish on paved road through town then 5 miles of lead up fire road non paved washboard down to 7k ft of elevation with a final 5mi straight up on high clearance jeep trail, rocks shale and snow to something close to 10.5k ft of elevation at its peak. This is a trail that unless you are on a full size dirtbike with a bunch of suspension takes hours to do, just the "laurel lakes part". I believe we stopped in town on our way back and grabbed a burrito as well.

Z50 replicas parked at laurel lake.

View looking down the valley from 10.5k feet up

EDIT- its funny the picture in my signature below is a late winter pic looking up that valley in my tacoma. go figure.

very nice day to ride in today and leave the truck at home... did a 12 hour round trip yesterday to adopt a new dog and ya the f150 is stupid comfy but glad to be back on the bike! loads of fog walls to ride through today so that was a lot of fun!

atm gonna be taking my headlights off my f150 to see if they will fit in the tracers top bag or side bags. i found someone that has some headlights i want but id like to take the tracer on the 6 hour round trip tbh. what you all think? think they will fit in the boxes or nah?
