Keep on dreaming. Doesn’t exist. Many of us want them, but we can’t get them. If you saw any long bed manuals, they were access cabs and you didn’t notice. If they were double cabs then they were not manuals and it wasn’t noticed.

I feel like it was an afterthought with the less than optimal gearing, sloppy shift feel and vague clutch. Would still prefer it over the AT.

Did a road trip with my parent's Sienna which has the same V6 and similar transmission. If my Tacoma shifted like the Sienna did, I'd absolutely hate it. Interestingly enough, the Sienna easily managed 25 MPG cruising under 80. If I picked it up to 80-85 I was still averaging low 20's. This was with 4 adults, 2 kids and all our luggage. Weighs about the same as a 3rd gen with the AWD system.

1800-2000 rpm hesitation/lurch in basically every gear. Annoying but bearable.

Love it. It's a bit quirky but so am I. If there's an option for a manual transmission I'll get it.

Zero issues over here, 65K miles. Second gear and R could have been a bit lower but those are very minor complaints. This is a very smooth transmission for a pick up truck.

7 years later i am still trying to understand the lack of power complaint. I use my truck for work and play, plenty of power.

I also dont understand how it has long throws as i can easily shift without lifting my elbow from armrest.

Guys that say its "clunky", need to simply work on their footwork.

The 5 speed manual of Gen 2 was enough, it was perfect. The 6 speed is one too many.

The rev hang was annoying at first but overall I’m very happy with my MT. My only wish, like yourself is if Toyota made a long bed / double cab MT.

91 sibi tune eliminated this. The power comes in earlier around 1500rpm. No more bogging ass if you try to take a sharp right turn slowly in 2nd.

Regarding the recent discussion on fuel economy of 6MT equipped Tacomas; en-route to Michigan, I drove from the Gaithersburg area of Maryland to the Toledo area of Ohio yesterday and got over 400 miles on the tank traveling with the cruise control set to 75, this in spite of fighting some nasty headwinds and heavy thunder storms.

This. I can eliminate it with octane. Super annoying to me. Even more annoying—some people seem to not have this issue.

My 2018 MT6 was very notchy and preferred slower shifts. I like manuals and went with it in part because I read they were having issues with the automatic. In hindsight, I would probably go with an auto next time. Stop and go driving is no fun with a stick and the rev hang, clunky feel during shifts and could never get used to the clutch engagement. My 1999 MT5 Tacoma shifts way better and is more enjoyable.

Shifting experience and power delivery are significantly worse in my '22 6mt offroad, than my equally heavy and 100+hp and torque less 280k+ mile 5spd swapped 3rd gen 4runner.

Between the rev hang and poor throttle (which also seems highly varied depending on driving conditions??? Doesn't feel consistent or predictable ever) response, it's a slow brick.

Swapping the 5mt r150f into my 4runner made it feel downright peppy and spirited to drive, even when loaded down with all of my stuff.

The lack of consistency always gets me. Sometimes mine will haul ass in 2nd gear, but other times it feels so ridiculously slow. I really don’t get it. Usually when I want more from it is when it’s the worst. Such as pulling out in front of someone coming around a blind curve and all of a sudden I need to speed up…it is in situations like that where it decides it doesn’t want to, and doesn’t.

Pretty sure its the same tranny, i have a 2019. I love it. Great on road and off road. But yeah its clunky. Especially first to second gear. I jave had it since new and now its at around 55K miles. Sometimes i go man it would be comfy to just have the auto. And if i had an auto i would also be happy. If you have alot of bumper to bumper traffic tho and its gonna be your daily paired with that then any manual id avoid.
