Thats what the SR is. I used to run a fleet of autoparts trucks. Some of our toyotas had 450k miles. They just kept going unless a driver lied about checking the oil every morning.

The SR5 is a SR with 50 more hp and fog lights.

When i was looking there were zero 4wd SR the access cab also has the squeaky rear leaf springs instead of coils . But an aftermarket stereo and aftermarket shocks would be better than my 10k extra Premium OR package i regret it. Its glitchy.

I finally looked at an extra cab SR5 yesterday and was shocked by how little room there is behind the seats.

The cab seems overall much smaller than my 1997 gen one.

The rear area is almost unusable. It’s similar to sports car storage behind the seats.
You can’t even place boots or a box of Kleenex on the floorboard with the seats in the driving position. No room.
The “storage” area is also shockingly small. Can’t even fit a medium size duffel bag or camera backpack with seats in the driving position. Unless you like compressing the bags with the seats, Its only good for a large purse.

Seats don’t recline much past the driving position.

I wrongfully assumed the cab and storage area would be roughly the size of my 97 Extra cab. I was sadly mistaken. In the 97 with the seat all the way back, I can’t depress the clutch pedal. In the 2025 the seats all the way back and it still feels cramped. Overall, the cab feeling is cramped.

Now I must agree with others who think the cab is unusable for storing the clean, dry, fluffy stuff for road trips.

Neat truck if you don’t need that space.

    Heart Broken.

I might soon be in the market for a used 3rd gen 4WD two door 6 foot bed.

I've had an SR5 xtracab 4x4 since January and it's been great so far. Coming off a series of access cabs (last one was an '18 TRD OR), I do miss the rear doors, but the storage behind the seats seems pretty much identical to me. Agree about the seats though, they don't recline as far as the 3rd gen, for some unknown reason. Aside from the quirks, it's a far better driving truck than the 3rd gen. They do seem to be very rare. Haven't seen a single SR in the field let alone another SR5. IMG_4638.jpg

    Nice truck. That’s the one.
Two days ago there were three Underground in Vegas, two Blacks in Oregon and one White in Idaho. SR5 4wd two door.

I had no idea. I thought the gen 3 has more room.

A coworker has an extra cab 3rd Gen 4WD. I’ll check it out today

I know this is a 4TH Gen thread, But I am going to throw out my Opinion. I will be keeping my Antique 2005 Access Cab that has rear doors that open. Toyota went Back Words by making them not open.

LOL, Nope. I am surprised what Toyota Did. I am not one of those people that Dislike other Generations, I like them all, Hell they are all Tacomas.

We hear all the time from folks wanting a simpler Toyota truck w/o “modern gadgets that break”. Seems to me that you can’t get any more 1986 Hilux than an extra-cab Toyota pickup riding on a boxed frame, complete with leafs and a low-stress 4cylinder displacing….2.4 liters. It’s so Marty McFly that dealers should give you a Members Only jacket with each purchase.

So where’s the “PreRunner Owners Only” thread?

Toyota must have just finished a run of this model/trim, as Toyota's site lists a bunch in transit with delivery through mid-July.

If you really want one, now's the time.

People say that, but when the time comes, they don’t buy it. The manufacturers are going to produce what sells. The bare bones truck will be coming out, the slate. Manual windows, single cab, no radio. I predict it won’t sell well.

While there are probably a few exceptions, I agree with you that most people would prefer to have some of the nicer features of modern vehicles. I enjoyed the post you quoted also for the PreRunner thread comment since I have one, but would not have purchased it if it was a truly bare bones truck—— the reason it’s a really good fit is because though some things I’d like to have are missing, it pretty much has everything I actually need. If I was still in a place that had challenging winters would have definitely gone with 4wd SR5 option and agree with everyone regarding the fact that having the rear access doors would make it much better, but I’ve been happy with it and am glad Toyota kept the short cab long bed option when most other manufacturers scrapped them altogether.

Never seen one in MD I haven't looked since the end of May. I have to put a hold on spending money on things I don't need bad timing wouldn't you say. I don't even heve the time to shop especially something that's not easy to find to begin with. Thanks for the heads up. Was that SR or SR5? I got about six months of payments left on my last vehicle loan I was probably going to wait until that's done. Rates still aren't where I'd like them to be.

Isn't the Prerunner optioneed the same as SR5? I know there's a rear locker and TRD interior and fender flares. I didn't think you could add anything that SR5 Xtracab can't get. Same screen, same features same upgrade package. There's still a good bit of content, but I thought you had to go Double Cab to get the tech pkg on SR5?
