That hitch can be replaced easily. Are you saying you would pass on this truck? Did you see the video?

I did, that shows the leafs...
The video is pointless, doesnt show the front of the frame....
doesnt show any of the low hanging engine components, etc....
Needs to be visually inspected in person by someone who knows what theyre looking for & at....

So many people come on this forum after the fact, bought this truck few years ago & now its falling apart.....
Im not saying thats what you have here, the documentation, they video sucks in regards to the entire picture....

In the rust belt, "surface rust" is an intermediate step. Needs a personal check by someone who knows what they are looking at.

im going to ask them for another set of pictures or video. I made a post on here looking to see if anyone lives in the area and haven’t had any replies. I also reached out to an independent inspector but haven’t heard back.

what are the areas you would mostly want to see a picture of to make a decision without seeing it in person?

    Is it a Toyota dealer?
If so, they do frame inspections.
    Can they be trusted?
    I don't know.

It’s not at all Toyota dealer unfortunately. The place that has it doesn’t do their own repairs either so they don’t have a rack to put it on. I wish.

looks like a saltwater surface corrosion maryland truck. Also looks like the frame "may" have been replaced. To me living in northern Michigan, Id buy that...but I would have a close inspection of the frame near the catalytic converters area. I would have someone look at it, or go see for yourself

The type of sale when the vehicle is out of state is nothing but a gamble. The seller always wins.

I called Toyota dealer and they ran the vin. He said it doesn’t show a frame replacement in the system but in 2020 they coated the frame under a recall

the "coating" looks like white toothpaste not like woolwax or fluid film per se. and as far as corrosion issues, look at the frame section near the cats specifically there. the rest looks like surface rust and not much of a big deal. Im sure all the southwest people will tell you to RUNNNNNN...but for a salt state, that looks pretty good.

I’m taking it to TN if I buy it so I would think as long as there’s nothing detrimental now it should be fine forever being no rust issues here. Also I can coat it with something myself. Need to find what the best is.

I asked for more pictures of these particlular areas this is the pic I sent them of a Tacoma frame

Just nicely ask them for more photos. Tell them where to point the camera.

Nobody coats a frame under recall. The dealer inspects, injects some wax in where the hidden rust is and puts plastic plugs in the frame cut outs where they inject the wax. Or if it failed a replacement frame. That one picture could be a painted over plastic plug.

All I can say is what the dealer told me. The service website from Toyota says in 2020 the frame was sprayed with KOD under recall

I thought all they did was cavaity wax. Maybe that plug isn't painted over and that particular plug might be there from original production. There looks to be some larger round holes where the cavity wax leaks out that are also plugged.

This is what my never been coated never been replaced had the recall done 2012 frame looks like. The front part of the frame where the lower piece bolts on and the wings bolt on show much more rust than that area. Ask to see that.

One thing that seems positive to me is the frame looks smooth and black in the pictures. The leafs don’t but the frame does. I’ve seen some that have been painted over and they are rough to the touch. This frame looks very smooth to the eye in the pictures and video.

The quick glimpse of the front section I could see looks clean but I don't see any of the round plugs I mentioned on the side rails. I don't think the frame got touched for the recall.

If that was my truck and I worked at a Toyota dealership no matter the position. I'd ask the service writter to go ahead and process the recall. If they got around to completing the recall or not I wouldn't care. Having it documented is what matters to extend the frame replacement recall warranty.

Check this picture you can see where it said they did it. Not saying they didn’t but all I have to go by. I called the specific dealer also and they confirmed it was done there
