There is a truck at a dealership there that I’m interested in. I’m out of state and really hoping to find someone to go by there and just do a Quick Look over of the frame and take a few pics. I’d be happy to pay you for your time. Someone please help!

I’m 20 minutes from Arlington but am a little tied up for a week or so. Any chance the dealer might be able to get some pics for you? If you’re serious about buying this truck you could also get the dealer to drop the truck off with a Toyota dealership for pre inspection…I just did this and bought one myself..The dealerships even do a video so you can watch the inspection and see everything. (Highly recommended vs a clown like me doing a visual inspection)

I’ll see what I can do after the weekend passes, but after 3 hours in the DMV, doing my own pre inspection, dealing with a tree landing on my jeep (the list goes on and on) you caught me at a bad time…i haven’t even had time to drive my new purchase which is sitting in my driveway now. I’m dying to take this thing out but am worn down !

Glad you edited that after you thought about it. I work 14 hour shifts on Sundays and I have been absolutely covered up. I apologize I couldn’t drop what I was doing to reply to you when you wanted me to. I appreciate the offer.

I once was a VW enthusiast (VWR32) and one of the forum members drove 45 mins to drop a part off for me, no charge. We need more of this in today’s world. I was hoping to do the same for you but the timing isn’t great.

All good man, if you still need someone to do this for you, let me know. My apologies for my first response, I saw you logged in and took it the wrong way!

Man I have done countless things for people like this. Sent videos etc that’s where I got the idea from and just thought I would ask. Sorry for the harsh response. I just saw this as I was leaving and was just aggravated.

unfortunately timing isn’t on my side. If I can’t find someone to look at it tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest I’m probably screwed. It was a short notice thing. I even tried reaching out to mobile inspection services in that area and haven’t gotten any response.

Send me the address and I’ll see what I can do. You can PM me if you want to keep the info private. I’m not working Monday or Tuesday, so this may work out well..

    A tree fell on your jeep? Where I live, that’s a sign…

Weather has been crazy here in Virginia, trees coming down everywhere! It all worked out great though, the Jeep was a hand me down from family, I was growing to really like it but always worried about reliability later in life. In the end I wound up with a Tacoma two years newer and less mileage (with the insurance money)Worked out well, and am thinking this is a good sign?

I’m heading to Arlington tomorrow to check out this truck for the OP…I’m hoping things work out.

I’ll never need to worry about turning any wrenches, I got a good chuckle out of this. I haven’t changed my own oil in 20 years, but plan to start now that I see the filter is on top of the engine, Love it!

Heading to the city tomorrow, it’s going to be 100 degrees…Will be a good opportunity to see how well my AC works. I’m also curious to see how the Tacoma does in the city, my F 150 was terrible there,,,,

Hey, if anyone could give me some tips on what to look for here, I’d really appreciate it, I can take pictures for the OP, etc…but am far from an expert on these matters. I always get a thorough inspection with a mechanic before buying and think this should be done if the OP decides to move forward.. so this is just a pre/pre inspection to save the OP from wasting time and money if anything is obviously wrong..

Frame - Fronts and backs of the front cab mounts, frame sections on the inside facing the cats (the boxed sections), the bottom inside lips of the open portions where the layered sections of the frame show, the rear inside up near the muffler. Also the front leaf spring perches. These are the major truck-killing rust areas.

    Sigh, delete.

I did not enjoy "helping" this stranger out in any way.

It's risky buying any used vehicle. IMO, take it to a mechanic make a decision, and go with it. This is NOT a house you are buying its just a truck.

Having everyone on a forum jump through hoops for you is probably not the best approach to buying a truck.
