Bottom line is they assembled it wrong . The warranty has no bearing at all. It didn’t wear out , or break . The problem was caused by their mistake / negligence period . They are responsible, and this one should be covered period . I would 100 percent escalate this how ever you can .

It’s worth spending a few hundred bucks for a lawyer to send Toyota a letter.

after all my AC issues and terrible dealer support, not to mention leaking coolant bypass on the back of my engine I‘m a one and done Toyota purchaser. Their poor follow thru on things like this is exactly why.

I’m surprised Ram jumped on that trend at all, my 1500 started falling apart around 60k miles and I’ve had many friends own Rams (gas and diesel) and they always get rid of them before 100K miles because there are too many issues. Maybe they boosted quality control or something in the new models lol

They had to do something but I don't think the quality has improved.

Had a Dodge car back in the 90s. Similar stuff. Stellatis was a joke to me until GM entered the fray with their 6.2l.. WTH!?

Gm has been a joke for a while. Even before 6.2. Quality has been terrible for 20 years

GM and Chrysler are complete dumpster fires, Ford is a pinch better but honestly nothing is really “American” anymore. I worked in the automotive industry for just about 20 years, I have brands I prefer but you really just have to do your research and buy what makes sense. As much as we value quality the average American consumer just wants a monthly payment they could “afford” and drive something nicer than their neighbor. Most people don’t keep their cars for a long time anymore, also the American and Korean manufactures are the worst for parts. About the time the vehicle is paid off and you’re running out of warranty you’ll find a lot of parts are no longer available. You end having to source OEM parts through other vendors or just buy the “best” crappy part at the local parts store to keep it going. For a few years I worked at a pretty awesome used car dealer, we had really high standards and I was constantly ordering stuff from the local dealers. So much stuff is made in China, I laugh when people say “I only drive American”. Don’t get me wrong, I’m super pro American and wish we did more manufacturing here but it’s just not what it used to be. I don’t have the picture but I was shocked the first time I pulled factory wheels off a Ford Raptor and cast right into the spoke was “Made in China”.

Worst case yes, or at least consult one if convenient. Depending on OP's state, small claims it.

Can’t speak for corporate but I will say having dealt with dealers for ever they are really hit or miss. Some dealerships are great and have competent employees, others unfortunately are the ones that fulfill the stereotype of “used car salesman” or the incompetent/dishonest service industry technician/service advisor.

I pride my self in honesty and doing the best work I can. I’ve always charged a fair price but never the cheapest. I’ve found there are plenty of clients willing to pay for better service and higher quality work. I now work on heavy equipment and love it, way less stress, awesome huge projects and most clients just want the job done correctly so they can get back to work. I absolutely love everything automotive but if I ever went back into the automotive industry I’d probably open a specialty shop. I used to work on Euro cars and loved that as well, especially all the old air cooled 911s I worked on.

Anyways, I digress, all the sub human jerks in the industry just make my job easier.

I was way too professional for way too long.
Only when I threatened litigation did they all of the sudden roll over.

It felt very much like they were told to support even the most absurd notion and keep blowing me off but if the customer threatens a lawsuit then that's the magic phrase to get them to pay out. IIRC mine was under 2k Or around there. And I was still under warranty. Had like 15k miles on it. Took me to 18K miles to get it fixed.

Treat the people with respect but get nasty with the policies and the company as a whole.

Here's the link to the last contact I had with Toyota. Save you from reading 26 pages of :jpow:

For how long is Toyota on the hook? 18 years? 28 years? To infinity and beyond?

There shouldn’t be a time limit on negligence. How long it went before the problem showed up is irrelevant, because the problem was caused by an extra part that never should have been there from the beginning. They should be on the hook for that.

So no time limits on any manufacturing defects, ever.

    Wow. Just wow.
