Nothing like the dependability of old technology. Or when Toyota really bench marks something the even engineer in the problems that can occur.

I saw a FX2 Ranger STX and said I still like the way they look, I've also seen Rangers with the dealer service ticket hanging from the rear view and wonder what it's like to drive one. 2.7 Broncos had the valve eating recall, that's why I bring up the ecoboost sever service vehicles those are Fords with turbos that don't get driven lightly, and if they need a turbo replace that maintenance will be performed, what's the replacement rate for turbos wolud be my question.

You chose the worst brand to cite. I've owned a Mk7 GTI, and no, none of that engine holds up reasonably well, including the turbo. They were failing under warranty. The 1.8T and 1.4T are no better.

A better comparison would be the Honda 1.5T and 2.0T

LOL not trying to exaggerate at all! But if the turbo unit goes for 2500 bucks, and one assumes a dealer does it, it would add at least 1k in cost for installation as stealerships are a joke.

Might of been on the high side, but not wrong per say.

Just watch the car nut guy, he guarantees they will fail... No need to be an ass, I am simply trying to understand expectations.

Looked like AMR was running current CRVs at what ever race I think was today Indy, Le mans I didn't see the cars. I think the CRV has the 2.0t those are reliable enough to put around the track and probably will get sold certi used and not need a turbo replaced by the second owner.

Everything will fail eventually. Water pumps, idler pulleys, transmissions, CV axles, ball joints, sway bar end links, headlights, etc... Turbos fall under "everything".

Turbo technology is over 100 years old. It's just two vanes on a shaft supported by bearings. Keep the bearings well lubricated and cooled (much of this is built into the mechanism), by changing the oil regularly and with quality oil. Let the turbo wind down/cool down for a minute or two before you shut off the engine if you've been running it hard.

When it eventually fails, you've already priced the cost of replacement. Alternatively, but something without a turbo; and start building your list of what will eventually fail with that particular engine.

That makes more sense Honda's smaller platorm. I did see a Toyota Gazoo Racing advertisement, I don't know why Toyota won't associate the north american trucks with the GR campaign even just throw GR in there with their TRD branding. Work on Sunday sell on Monday.

I’ve owned several 2.0ts and disagree. Aside from piston rings prior to 2013, the forums are not overrun with turbo problems.

I was going to joke and say AMR was using Silverados in the last NASCAR race I watched and if what they use on the track is any indicator of reliability. And why chevy, this picture explains it all.

If, after 15 years of ownership, I have to spend $3k on a new turbo, I’ll consider it money well spent

I was on the Mk7 forums for 3 years, the IS20 is not a reliable turbo. Plus timing chain stretch is a prevalent issue well before 100k.

My GTI had 10 warranty visits, including DSG replacement. I loved driving that car, amazing car aside from reliability. I don't think it's the vehicle to reference in regards to Toyota reliability

When it fails… OTT stage 3 with the bigger Turbo, probably going to be cheaper as well?

I can tell you right now, My 2013 3.5 EcoBoost, Does not get the Eco anymore, All it sees is the Boost LOL. It isn't driven lightly, It was at first when I was enjoying the Great Milage, But when I changed the Stock Tire and Wheel package, All bets were off.

Jeez, at 13 yrs I dropped about $4k into my rig over the course of a year and I just shrugged, then either rolled up my sleeves or paid the shop. It was a few different things that summed that figure up though

I mean, there was a time people were eschewing front wheel drive (in any vehicle) and fuel injection. But...well..ummm...

If you really want to see if they are gonna fail then join a Lexus NX forum. NX was the first model to use this engine in 2022, I believe. Some of those should be getting some miles on them.

My guy, you gotta take these youtube videos with a grain of salt. They're not in the business of researching, they're in the business of getting clicks. And videos sowing doubt and fear about the new toyota engine get the clicks.. big time. They know exactly what they're doing.

It's crazy how people take everything they see on YT and just run with it
