Austin's a bit shenanigans but nothing compared to RI in my opinion either. But, it is at twice the speed down there. Any road around here that's a casual 25-30 is an easy 55 down there. If you aren't going 90 on the interstate outside the cities you're getting your doors blown off by an altima with 3 different color body panels.

Moving from the woods of NH to Providence proper was a smack in the wallet, let me tell you what....

    30$/mo to 300$/mo

New england has a strong showing there, for NH and maine I wonder how much the winter plays into that but also deer/moose. I see deer just about daily on the road to my house

I bet a lot of it is windshield replacements through insurance too, which are probably reported in their sources.

Another thing to get used to is that the police want to see a DL and "Proof of insurance" if you're pulled over. They don't much care about the registration as they can see by the sticker if you're current or not. Which they seem to be pretty loosey goosey about as long as your insurance is current. And license plates. It's common to see old license plates on restored cars. Usually matching the year the vehicle was made.

There is a lot to learn when moving to Texas. That's not a bad thing, it's just a thing.

Worse because of the speeds. Route 24 would be 70 in Texas. Route 138 would be 60 and 65 in some sports. Speed limits drop within even small cities, but then pick up once outside of them. There are very few towns in Texas, even what we would consider a town is a city in Texas. Coupland, TX has about 300 people and it's a city.

I-45 is a race track. I happened to go to Texas just before their "snow storm" They don't salt the whole highway, only the over passes. Any time the trucks salting would stop to salt an overpass (they spray it by hand), all 4 lanes of traffic would try to exit to the access road. Me being patient waited the few minutes to let them do their thing. I passed them and had several miles of I-45 all to myself.

    Some stuff
And that is part of the reason for the rates.
Used to be very common for people to buy a policy, get proof of insurance, and cancel after a month, since it still showed they had insurance for another 5 months.
Rates are lousy there. 6 month liability policy on my Super Duty, was more than 1 year, of ALL of my vehicles, and that includes full coverage on a couple of the bikes, and the Tacoma.

We figure it's about twice what we paid in MA. OTOH, other things are less, so it all evens out plus we AREN'T in MA. My wife and I were talking about things up there the other day. She said, "I don't know how we lived up there so long?"

Ideally, we would be celebrating a decade here, but life got in the way and delayed us until the end of 2023.

In the Austin area they spray a salt brine on the road. They don't have nearly as many of those trucks as there are up north, but they also only need them a few times a winter.

I was in the Houston area. Looked like they had a few F-250s towing small trailers with tanks full of salt brine. It snowed about 1/2" over night. They recommended people stay off of the roads until noon... the next day!

Everyone's tires are summer or bald, and RWD, no experience in the snow, and one plow for the entire state.

My son lived and worked in the Mobile, AL area for about five years. One year they closed his job down for two days because of an ice storm. He told me that he'd have had no problem getting there, but the place would be empty because no one in southern AL knows how to drive on the ice.

We had a couple of days of icy roads here in the Austin area. I stayed home for the very same reason.

For the week leading up to the snow, all of the commercial breaks on the radio were about space heaters, generators and slow-downs due to car accidents.

Yes they were some crazy stuff going on. The front straight slip stream was intense. I was just waiting for one of them to not make the first corner. Half the time the back wheel way skating all over the place.

When Pecco touched Marc's rear with his front I thought that was gonna be it for both. Pecco's confidence has to be shot...hopefully not long term. And Morbidelli...you see him interviewed and he comes across so well...but when the helmet goes on he's an un-guided missile. He's gonna get someone hurt. He had zero chance of making that pass.

Marc is just so much better with the front brake than anyone...especially when he starts to lean.

There is so much wrong with that sentence.

Yeah, I guess using "tire" twice would have been appropriate
