Common trend I see with 2.7s is that people neglect adjusting their valves, and so you'll see a new thread pop up and the end result is a burnt exhaust valve from neglect

Kind of like people that neglect greasing their drivelines

Not to be confused with the Nick Theory

Maintain the head and the bottom end goes forever. Same exact bottom end (maybe a change in piston shape on the latest higher compression one) is used on the 2TR

Yeah that’s sorta the boat I’m in. I wonder if valves are kept in adjustment, do they never get to the point where they can’t be adjusted anymore?

I hear about balance shaft failures too, but I think I’ve only come across one.

Maybe I should just yank the engine, throw a new head on, pull the balance shaft and ship it.

I've been treated pretty damn well here all things considered, it's a small "big" company that never went public. So I don't have to deal with the nonsense that trickles down from the top over that. There is a small core out of about 300 employees that have been here since the 80s. Covid and then this recent tariff nonsense make things real shaky for a bit but otherwise they've been good to me. I like to lay low and aside from being good at my job, that's probably the key to survival lol.

I remember the microwave advice you gave me a couple months ago to set the power level low, I'm still too impatient for that...power level max and burnt tongues forever

You're like the 99% of people out there, y'all just need a single button on your microwave

Just one with 15 second increments, and press it as many times as you need for your timer
