Only for these trucks after seeing the issues they have off-road. I'm familiar with the Jeep 3.6 having similar issues but have not looked into it.

Honestly most stock engines are going to have some degree of oil flow issue at some angles. Its a non issue for most on road scenarios but people start to run into it with racing and off-roading. Don't know of other vehicles where it is as likely to blow an engine though.

Since my install (July 2024) I have had zero issues. No high engine idle, no issues at highway speeds, no issues with regular street driving. Truck feels exactly the same. I can also confirm that its working as during my last oil change I did not tighten the nut on the AN fitting at the oil cap enough and did notice a little seepage of oil at the oil cap fitting. Not enough to spill over the cap, just enough to be seen on the lower threads. Simple fix, more tight. At every oil change I check the oem valve to make sure the vacuum cap is on and tight. Still there, still tight. I've always changed the oil at right around 5 thousand miles in this thing and will continue to do so. I have been on many long trips, up & down mountain trials and a ton of swamp driving. Zero issues.

1 thing I have had to deal with is space, after the group 31 battery install the oil cap is snug up real close to the battery. Enough room to spin it but it's close enough that the battery gets in the way. Not an issue with the system itself just putting out info as we all have different builds.

Anyone with one of these want to run a used oil analysis when they change their oil? I wouldnt expect to see anything negative especially at 5k but would be nice to see.

There is an oil fill tube used on another Toyota model that does not bend towards the front of the vehicle towards the battery but only towards the drivers side. I looked thru my eBay and Amazon purchases and cannot direct you in the correct direction. I did hear about it here on this site so maybe a search could work. The only thing I can add to the threads is they talk about cutting out a baffle in the replacement tube- not at all necessary.

I'm not at my truck right now but I'm skeptical that there is significant vac at the oil cap to actually engage the Pcv and pull the ball out of its resting position. Certainly not a much vac as what the intake will pull. Of the few cars I've been around the crank case actually produces positive pressure and in the healthiest engines very minimal positive

This still uses the intake vacuum. All it does it move the pick from the back of the valve cover to the front (out of the pooled oil). From there it still routes to the stock location on the intake.

Interesting discussion. I like the product. Seems like maybe Toyota chose the OEM location to clean up the engine bay while at the same time being "good enough" for the 95% (99%?) of Tacoma owners that don't take their trucks into extreme offroad situations.

This reminds me of a somewhat unrelated anecdote. Several years ago I was having lunch with a friend who is a private pilot and a bit of a tinkerer. At the time he was building an experimental aircraft. They had the fuselage and avionics together but were running short on funds for purchasing an engine. Somehow they decided that instead of using an engine designed for an aircraft they could get by with a 4.3L GM Vortec V6 sourced out of a totaled pickup truck.

Horrified, I asked him what they were planning to due about oil flow in the engine and he let me know it shouldn't be an issue because they weren't going to be doing any aerobatics. I told him I thought it was a horrible idea, but they soldiered on with the build.

About a year later the plane was destroyed during taxiing trials when it got off the narrow runway they were testing on and went into a ditch hard enough to total it and end the project for good. My friend walked away unharmed except in the wallet. But hey....he was right. The engine never failed.

Oh! I was confused until @BUZZCUT posted the part numbers.

@MESO said that he simply broke off the neck and that matching oil cap threads were actually in the lower part of the valve cover. Something like pull the two bolts and reef on the neck.

Caution was noted that while he was able to remove it cleanly, there is the risk of damage.

    I tried and wimped out.

Found the post, and my bad, the section below the bolts comes with it:

No neck at all may not work well with the mod in this thread?

Yeah I have doubts it would work well...
The time it takes the vapors to travel up the neck gives any oil mist more time to fall out of suspension. I suspect you'd get a lot more oil mist traveling toward your intake (and probably more likely to have the same type of oil ingestion too, but instead when pointed downhill).

    Agreed.

I do like that little neck though.

Ive had it on for 9k. Everything runs normal! But no more oil going into my intake!!! No more smoke! This should totally be a recall on toyotas part.

^You have to undo the AN fitting before loosening the oil filler cap? That means doing this every oil change?
