The Tacoma does not have an air-to-water intercooler for the intake air, but some other Toyotas with the t24 do have it

Next time you see a Police or Sheriffs unit whether it be an Explorer or an F-150 go look at it. I will bet you it's an EcoBoost. I will Guarantee they aren't Babying those. I worked as a Mechanic for the County Road Department, We did all the Sheriff's Vehicles work also. The issue they have most were Brakes, Front End issues and Transmissions. And the Transmission were really on the Chevy Tahoe's.

Cooling the turbocharger itself and an intercooler are different.

This was my last summer shopping time, but under the hood of base and standard engines looked quite the same physically.
That is similar to our work delivery fleet. It's Transits more than pickups by quantity.

The way vehicles last longer now, those who dislike change can buy used vehicles too. In all of the challenges Stellantis has, it seems like their bringing back the V8 will give them some high margin sales and satisfy some shoppers but fleets definitely pursue lower operating costs so turbos are not going away.

indeed. batacoma seemed to be conflating the two, or at least talking about two things at once
