    Central A/C units tend to be easier to dismantle than window A/C units, as generally the SawzAll is only required to cut the ends off of condenser coils and cut the fans off of motors. The saw might also be needed to get through blower motor casings in furnaces and air handlers, but for the most part central A/Cs can be carefully taken apart with minimal destruction. This 1987 Lennox was a different story; I had to use the Milwaukee to cut through the fan grill, because the the hex bolts were rusted, and I also had to cut through most of the cabinet order to get the guts out…

    @Lt. Dangle

    $101 for the entire A/C unit (chopped up and properly sorted, of course), some parts of the furnace, and the entire heat exchanger from furnace!

    I saw this thing in Quaker Hall at Pennhurst Asylum. It looks like a window A/C unit, but that makes little sense because the inside part seen here looks like the outside part of a window unit...

    I posted the other picture of steam radiators in the MegaThread because the didn't seem to be connected to anything, or even in their original location. This one seems to still be hooked up...

    I scored four clean and operational window A/C units today! Amanda already requisitioned one, but rather than scrap these, I have decided to sell them!

    The GE and the Frigidaire are both 6,000 BTUs, and the Haier is 5,000s BTUs. The 10,000 BTU unit on which the Haier is sitting supposedly works, but it is absolutely filthy inside and kind of beat up, so it will be scrapped. All four were free!

    Those 6000s are no joke, I have one in my living room and it takes good care of the downstairs except in the extreme heat like this week, so I threw the 3rd one in the bathroom to help it out (which I believe is another 6000)

    Upstairs is #2, the 5000 or 6000 that does those two rooms.

    Some friends of mine (one from North Jersey and one from NYC) drove down to pick up the Carrier Cosmopolitan today…

    I got $100 for the Carrier, and it will be restored. My friend brought a 10,000 BTU Sharp, which he gifted to my other friend that I got the Carrier from, and they installed it in the Carrier’s place. The Carrier turns on and the lines get cold, but the fan motor does not engage, and it thus does not blow any air…

    The Carrier is an 8,000 BTU and the Sharp is a 10,000 BTU. Strangely enough, the Carrier is a 220V plug and the Sharp is a 110V. The Sharp also fits in the Carrier’s footprint, despite being of a larger capacity…
