"why does my truck drive like a slug and get a third of it's rated mileage?" -people who just changed to 33s.

Oh you'll wake up and think "these 33s are too small". Seen it many times.

Holy Moly!!!

I wouldn't get either of those tire sizes!!!

285s would be my choice...but since I've seen what 275s look like on a Sport; thanks to Connor @Dream Weaver, that's what I'm leaning towards.

 

If the exterior styling of pick up trucks was designed around the OE tire size there would be far less pick ups on the road.

 

TLDR thanks for the reader's digest or cliff notes version? On a 3rd Gen Tacoma, overall performance is best when tire height stays around 31.5" max.

2 sets of 33’s now back to 32’s. IMO glad I made the switch. C rated also. If ride quality is important to you

 

I think it looked better with the lights on.

 

I asked my wife if 1 inch is really even that big of a difference. She said it depends on how many inches you're starting with. So I settled with 32's and remembered its okay to be an inch shorter than the rest; so ask yourself, are you a grow-er or a show-er?

 

Ha. Reminds me of my motorcycle riding days. I traded in one for another bigger bike.
Brought it home and wife said: "Honey, it's so big"....

I pretended I didn't hear it and turned on my recorder so I could get that on tape.

 

Yeah the tires were a little skinnier than I expected. I like the wider look. I'm glad the pictures are helpful

The tires I have in the second photo are 265/70R17 sitting at 32". Keep in mind that second number plays into overall diameter too. 285/70R17 (which are kinda what I wish I had ) would be 33"

 

Nice Ride! Those tires are fat (wide)! They're 32's? The ride is much smoother, so that def is a plus

 

I did notice that the truck is a LOT more responsive off the line, brakes better, and feels smoother

 

Nothing wrong with 32”s. They’re a great size for your truck. However, as you seem to know, you chose the wrong wheel specs if your goal was to make them look big. For instance, here is my truck 5 years ago on 265/75/16’s…



The -12 wheels make them look beefier than they really are. Fast forward to today and I’m on 285/75/16’s on the same wheel…





There doesn’t seem to be a huge difference in photographs, but it person, it is quite noticeable.

Regardless, your truck looks great and you can always swap stuff out and try different things if it continues to bother you. First world problems. Enjoy!!!

 

My wife, coming from south America and Europe grew up with the metric system so when we got together i had to convince her that my pinky was 9 inches long.

 

Maybe I’m getting old I don’t see a difference …lol ….looks good either way …

I was thinking zero off-set would be fine...considering -10 off-set too but afraid of rubbing! (No chopping for me if I can avoid it)

Still thinking about tire width...275 vs 285.

I've got the TRD Lift (2") so taking width into consideration, I imagine the 285s would rub.

Also, I'm sure MPGs will suffer and that's something I know comes with bigger tires.

I suppose I'd have to test both out...which will take years since I'm not buying different set-ups to do an analysis! lol
