Here's my 1967 Mercury Cyclone GT I had in the early 1980's . I bought it while on Active Duty in the Marines

It had a factory optioned fiberglass hood and a built 390 with 428 SCJ heads . It also the very rare hard to find 406 Ford 3x2 intake with the aluminum Thunderbird oval air cleaner

Every time I opened the hood people would see the oval thunderbird and the multi carb set up and they mentioned that is a 427 Ford side oiler

Since we are on the varied topic thing one of the things I do in addition to wood working and motorcycles is bicycles. I collect them, restore them, and do repairs on them.
    Here's a few.
My schwinn heavy duty paper boy bike
    20190101_145530.jpg
    1950s schwinn excelsior.
    00G0G_dxVEyAMYFYo_600x450.jpg
A schwinn typhoon resto mod. Powdercoated, 2 speed kick back rear hub, springer fork, and I laced the wheels with heavy gage spokes. All new decals.
    20190421_134802.jpg
All original 1960 schwinn corvette 3 speed, this one will be restored for my collection. It's the year I was born so it's a 65 year old bike.
    20190515_122656.jpg
1950s schwinn spitfire, before I resto modded it.
    20190105_155324-600x800.jpg
The spitfire after a full resto mod build, podercoated everything. 2 speed kick back hub. Powdercoated rims and heavy gage spokes. It's called the Betty because I built it for my Betty.

My Betty used to work for the city. She had the guys make me an official city bike route sign. Coolest birthday gift I ever got!

Great bikes... I wish I could find a decent Stingray. I guess they are collector's items now and the boys bikes are scarce. But then I'm also cheap and won't pay an arm and a leg. The recently made retro ones worry me about the quality and I've never seen one in a bike shop to be inspected, just mail order. And truthfully... why? I'd probably hurt myself.

A good friend of mine does the stingrays and crate bikes, he has one of every model ever made. Those bikes are now worth 1000s each.
I do mostly what they call middleweight and heavy weight bikes, fat tires of the day.

I bought a friend a skip-tooth bike when he expressed an interest in restoring one. He had the crank chromed and then lost interest. I think he thought the bike was too far gone to resurrect. Maybe he was right. But I'm the kind of guy that sees a rusted out hulk and imagines a show stopper.
The '62 Galaxie was very rough. It had been sitting in a junk yard for over 20 years and had a hole punched in it by a forklift.

    love the pics.

A brand new circa 1960's Schwinn cruiser was the start of a life long obsession of mine. My parents saved so they could buy me a brand new Schwinn cruiser with every accessory for my birthday at around 10 yrs old. Back then kids actually bicycled to elementary school. Well, before the next morning and riding to school the first time I removed every accessory, fenders, chain guard, lights, rack and of course the tassels on the hand grips. Bless my mom and dad, may they RIP, they never said a word about it.

My obsession.....From that early beginning, every vehicle I have ever owned I have displayed my male dog syndrome, "I lift my leg on each one" I have to modify them somehow in order to mark them, make them mine.

I had a Schwinn Typhoon with the 2-speed kickback hub which I used to deliver the Detroit New with for almost five years; great bike and great hub (super rare these days).

Here are my two oldest bikes; first is the previously mentioned 1959 Hercules/Raleigh recovered from a snowbank with a Hercules branded Sturmey-Archer 3-speed hub:
    PXL_20250625_160707814.jpg

Also as previously mentioned, the Hercules is pretty rough, I'm toying with the idea of having it fully restored.

The second is a 1982 Trek 728 which I bought new that summer and promptly flew it to Europe and rode through Belgium, Holland, France, Luxemburg, and Italy. The bike has since been back to Europe and the UK at least a half dozen times as well as New Zealand, Hawaii, and to and fro in many places in the US and Canada; it has somewhere between 25,000 and 30,000 miles on it and pretty much the only parts which are still original beyond the frame and fork are the crank, seat post, and handlebars:
