Now that I know a bit more about the situation, I’d probably just drop it with the current dealer and take it to the other one. Start fresh and see what they say. If they come up with something dumb, try to steer them towards compression and leakdown tests.

I don’t know if the first dealer is milking warranty or actually has never heard of this problem before. The FSM has a laundry list of items to check for these codes, and injectors are on there. But, real world starts to trump the FSM when trends begin to form. When you read all the threads on this family of codes and see that EVERY one needed a new head and valves, it makes you think a dealer replacing injectors is either ignorant of the problem at hand and its commonality, or they are just milking easy warranty money and know deep down that it won’t fix the problem.

Ok, I’m going to seek another opinion at another Toyota Dealership.

    I hear you 100%…

Just to play devils advocate, it could be a weak injector. Common problem doesn't mean it's always the problem. Not saying they're right, just saying they could be

I hear 100% and I pray thats the culprit rather than a massive teardown due to a burnt valve - IMHO it doesn’t hurt to get another opinion - not trying to sow bad intentions into the mix. I just would feel a lot better if I had a leakdown / compression test on cylinder #1 - that seems to be a conclusive test to fully rule out a burnt valve and 100% point to a bad injector. The injector replacement is still happening on July the 16th since we are under warranty, not curving that appointment at the moment - Going scope out another opinion and see how it plays out.

I just cant help but to notice that its involving my #1 cylinder, which highly correlates with the burnt valve condition.

UPDATE [7.9.25] Went in for the second opinion last week and they said they can’t touch it since the other warranty is under order. The tech was super cool coming out and talking to me about the truck, understand that they don’t want to step in and shake the boat while in the middle of a warranty. He said he’d like to inspect closer, but no talk of a burnt valve was brought up. I’ve put on about 300mi since the diagnostic with no check engine light on… thought that was interesting since no ‘fix’ has been made. Maybe just cleared the code - Scheduled for a warranty injector replacement on July 16th. I have noticed rough idling today again… [No check engine light]. Rough idling is 100% noticeable and you can see the tack jumping around.

Lowkey started looking into I4 4x4s…

Give it some time and more miles...it'll come back. Sometimes it takes another 500-1000 miles.

On my 2018 when first diagnosed they cleared codes and stated bring back in once you run good gas through it and check light comes back.

light came back on intermittently at first and I took it back when on an off cycle. They said run it some more and drop back once on. So a few more miles and back again.

I hear… I’ll just stick with the repair thats on the books. I don’t want to run the risk of voiding any warranty and just go forward with their recommendation and just be prepared after the injector repair that the issue will return. If I have to do a trade, whatever, I didn’t like the upkeep of keeping a black truck clean anyways. I’ll be back here next week after the injector repair.

Interesting fix at first, just run better gas? Reflecting back on trading in the 2018 for a 2022 - you like that decision? What trim you get for the 2022? I think for the peace of mind it might be the correct decision in the near future…

Yes, to me it was the right decision. After my repair of the burnt #1 valves and that side head. Just knowing they only partially fixed part of my engine played with my “what if” worry wart personally

And then at pick up the AC not working was fuel to the fire!

The 2022 just rolled over 61,000 with no issue except for water intrusion, and that’s been another story
