On my 3G, I cut a wire so my passenger could use the GPS while the vehicle was moving.

Does anyone know which wire I cut or ground to do this on the 4G?

Also, is there a similar way to disable the auto start/stop feature that kills the engine at stop lights. Yes, I know I can disable it during every drive but I would rather disable it permanently.

    TIA.

I've also noticed that, when driving, I can't access all of the camera views. I had added a front camera to my 3G and was able to view the front and the back cameras via the steering wheel mode button. Is there a way to enable this on the 4G? Is this something that Carista would be able to handle? TIA.

You do not have ASS, you have a hybrid. Your truck is doing what all hybrids do and that is goes electric at low speeds and stops.

    We'll see what happens.

The first tuner that comes out with an "engine always on" flash is gonna get my money. I bought the hybrid for the extra power, not fuel efficiency.

I wouldnt consider saving the starter from having to engage 75 times each way 5 days a week to be gimping anything. If anything it would be prolonging the life of that component. How many acres of rainforest does this really save anyway?

The starter is built for it and this is a solved problem for decades. AS/S causing starter failures was a fear of old timers that never materialized.

I believe that the hybrid Tacoma uses the larger electric motor/generator, sandwiched between the engine and transmission, to start and stop the gas IC engine.

The small electric starter motor on the hybrid Tacoma is a backup unit, only used if the hybrid battery and motor system fail.
So, the hybrid Tacoma has two starter systems for that gas engine, which has only a 5 year, 60,000 mile warranty.

The hybrid battery is warrantied for 10 years and 150,000 miles.
The hybrid motor system is warranted for 100,000 miles.

But of course, a lot of people think that the gas engine and transmission must be better, because, they have a short warranty.

You aren't going anywhere on the mild hybrid system with out the gas engine. Toyota offers the longer warranty on the hybrid systems to instill consumer confidence in the skeptics. That's why Hyundai offers the warranty they do, and most recently RAM has joined 100k club. I'd still pick a Prius over a Powerboost any day.

Why do you presume the starter isn’t designed for that service?

You don’t refrain from engaging the various other components during your drive, what’s special about the starter that you think it so fragile?

When I test drove the hybrid I noticed tow/haul mode kept the engine running. Possible free solution.
