98 Taco a with 15 inch rims. Aluminum are corroded beyond repair. Any suggestions? Live in Vancouver
and they use a lot of salt in the roads in the winter. Go black? Need a durable 15 inch rim that looks cool. thx

Can you go with 16in wheels? There’s usually a lot for sale on marketplace from the new Taco owners who install after market wheels

Was more looking to see photos-ideas of what other people upgraded to that look cool but would
    not
be that susceptible to corrosion on their Fgen Taco. Plus just bought new firstone 15s

Honestly, I still really like the "stock" alloy wheels from a TRD model. Sixteen-inch tires are very common, you retain the classic look, don't need to mess with offset, and they are relatively easy to find because everyone wants to replace them with shiny $350 rims. I have a spare set I picked up for $75 from a guy on Facebook Marketplace, so if I break one, it's no big deal. Use your savings to buy nice tires!

Also if you want to make them "salt proof" have them sand blasted and powder coated. That will cost ~$80 a wheel depending on where you live.

I had my 15 inch OEM wheels refinished silver a few days ago by my mobile wheel repair guy. Mine were pretty badly corroded as well.

EDIT, maybe corroded wasnt the right word, just worn after 25 years.

Those look great as well. Seems like you went the same route as I did. These wheels will not go out of style because they are classic!

I dont have to worry about salt on the roads here in the high desert. They may do that once a winter here.

Are you trying to stay with the stock 1st gen look? I run 3rd gen wheels on my first gen and see factory take offs on FB market place all the time for cheap

Yeah they want 1000 bucks to do 4 rims here with the tire work. Seems like I need to find some used 15 or 16s wait till I get new tires.

Yes, same here. But at the end of the day if you have salt the only way to deal with it is upkeep. Steel rusts and alloys corrode. I good layer of paint or clear coat that
I think a good portion of the 1st gen 6 lugs came with 16-inch rims (at least the TRD variants, and possibly others). By the time the 2nd and 3rd generations came out, I think these were the only choices. Stock 16-inch rims are a good choice for first gens, as there is a good selection of tire choices, and you still get a good amount of sidewall. I can see your dilemma if you are trying to salvage a good set of tires, though.

15-inch rims were only used on Tacomas through the 2000 model year. Every Tacoma made since then has had 16+. Every 4Runner since 1996 has had 16+. Every Tundra and Sequoia ever has had 16".

As far as alloy wheels go, there are really only two options commonly available for USDM 15" Toyota wheels: The double-tri-spoke used on early Tacomas (be careful with this one, as a 16" version of the same design was also used on 3rd-gen 4Runners) and the double-quad-spoke used on pre-Tacoma pickups, 1st/2nd gen 4Runners, and some Land Cruisers.

If you're okay with steelies, aftermarket wheels, or non-USDM imported wheels you get a lot more options, but they still aren't common.

Do you have a link to any of these replica rims above? Are they good quality or junk? Would I have any issues with em? Thx

Those are just pictures I grabbed from random places online. They're probably refurbs, not replicas, but idk. I know there are a handful of places to buy used/remanufactured rims but I don't have experiences with any of them so I can't recommend any specific place.

You might get a little more help if you list the model Tacoma you have vs. "'98 with 15" rims".

If you don’t do anything extraordinary, IMO, stick with 15s. Tire price is cheaper. If you want to up the rim size, I would bypass 16 and go 17. With my experience, 16 is not a popular size and the tires cost slightly more than 17s.
