Stock with a camper shell for now.
I purchased a fumoto drain, and before ordering it read a lot about it on here and noticed that one of the major complaints was that the thread is too long which doesn’t allow for all the oil to get removed, but what I didn’t see was anyone adding an extra washer so double washer it to lesson those threads. Has anyone done this ? Was there any issues or concerns?

Just stick it in for God sake. :D Mine has been in there for 14 years and I still don’t give a shit. Edit: I really like it because I’m lazy af. I do pop a new oil filter on every once in a while between oil changes.IMG_5462.jpg Fingers crossed. Hanging in there.

this. mine has been in for almost ten yrs with no issues. also i don't give a shit, i don't think a couple mm's of standing oil will do anything in the long run.

There's plenty of places where oil can puddle up, like up in the cylinder heads under the valve covers. A couple tablespoons of old oil left behind isnt going to hurt anything. It's a truck not a spaceship

Also, its the thread boss inside the pan that sticks up, not the threads on the drain plug.

    Don't overthink it

Do they still take 20+ minutes to drain through that tiny hole? My pee hole is bigger FFS!

Still faster than dropping the skid plate to clean the splashed oil off

When I bought mine a few years ago, I believe it was advertised as increased flow rate over previous models. I know mine doesn’t take too long. Once I crack it open, I typically start working on the filter. Once that is done, the oil is always done draining. I highly recommend them.

Much like my engine, I have to spend a minute warming up. That will facilitate the fluid transfer

if we solve one problem, leave it to tacomaworld to come up with another 'problem' it doesn't solve.

    double washers are ill-advised.

i think we all learned in sex-ed to never double-up on condoms because the friction between the two latex surfaces will result in breakage and a high risk of babies.

this is far less life-altering, but double-washers have a high risk of spoiling your otherwise-pristine driveway.

    Ya agreed
Plug washers aren't like hamburger patties.
    Don't double up.

Just warm up the oil first to mix as much of the engine detritus into the oil then just drain what will drain.

I have the fumoto and actually removed my oil pan recently and the threads do NOT stick up higher than the drain inside, and it only takes a few minutes to drain all the oil

I do oil changes frequently and the most annoying are the fumoto valve ones. Takes 15 min to drain 6 qts.

    Just getting started.
I went with the Stahlbus and I'm very happy with their system. That's not to say that the Fumoto isn't a great product, I just like having the redundant backup (spring loaded valve plus cap) to prevent an accidental leak.

Gives you enough time to change the oil filter, put the filter access cover back on the skid plate, top off the washer fluid, check brake fluid and antifreeze levels.

Saves me 30 min of clean up when oil gushes out of the oil pan without the Fumoto valve and spills all over the crash plate and the floor.
