Took a therapy day. 2nd attempt to reach the end of Crown Point road, which was blocked near the top a few weeks ago by several 4' snow drifts.
Took the bike down side roads/trails I prolly had no business being on alone. I'll have to see if I can pull up some pics from the other camera. Did the entire trip on street pressure and had no issues at all.

End of the road, around 10,238'. Ate 1st lunch here.

It's a 2 hour rough ride up this road, and people drag horse trailers up here to use this trail. Open to horses and hikers, nothing with wheels allowed. There is a pretty pristine lake at the end of it.

    West Sheep Creek fork.

    East Sheep Creek fork.

Applied this to my chain a few days ago after cleaning all the oil and crap off.

Normally there would be a pretty good oil fling on this side of the bike and burning oil smell from the shit flung on the catalytic converter. Yes, I do wipe the chain off after oiling.
This stuff has some good hang time, no fling, and the "clicking" sound I was hearing went away.

Stopped here for 2nd lunch, 5 hours into the ride.

Did the GPS odometer comparison thing and the bike was over by a few tenths at the end of the day. Seeing as how I filled it with gas and drove it home before starting the GPS, that would be the difference. So the mileage is accurate. Got 79mpg today. I doubt it would do that well on the highway though.

I use the same chain lube, good stuff.

What size Versys do you have? I have been thinking about a Versys 650 or Vstrom 650

I've been offroad a lot less lately, riding alone keeps spooking me, last year I dumped the bike and blew the starter fuse and had to bump start the bike every time after on a trail.

I worry about injury even though I take it easy.

My offroad buddies just can't align with schedule and its frustrating.

Looks like the 300 did great and you had a good day.

I get extra careful (nervous) when I get on some of the lesser traveled roads, especially midweek when the chances of seeing another person are slim.
I worry more about a flat and dealing with a tube than I do a wreck.

I use the same chain wax on both of my bikes. After I apply it I let it sit overnight or for a day to let it set up. It really does stay put with very little flng off. Love this stuff.

When it showed up, I got excited, cleaned the chain, wheel, hub, spokes, sprocket, removed the skid and cleaned the exhaust where it was baked on. Sprayed it on, and it started to rain, for the next 3 days. So it was pretty well set up for yesterday. :D

Been suing that on the chain drive bikes for over 20 years. Best stuff I've ever used IMO.

Got the heated gloves in. No experience with any, but the packaging was nice :D They aren't quite a bulky as my snowboarding gloves, so these should do well for me.

Yes. They're $1000 cartridges. It'd be silly not to

For any young riders here, here is a reminder to slow it down, and dress appropriately. RIP to the 21yo kid.

I use the same chain wax. love the stuff. Dries well, doesn't fling, lasts for quite some time before getting all grimy.

This is a big reason i sold my dirtbike. No one to ride dirt with, so my options were hit trails solo, or hit the racetracks solo, neither of which sounded too appealing when considering the chance for injury.

ugh. now that riding season is in full swing I've been seeing a lot more crashes and fatalities.

The Versys came with this rubber donut on the front wheel, literally just sammiched between the spokes and rotor, no actual mount. Not even centered.
It does have a part#, it's called a "damper", it can be purchased and replaced for under $7 on Ebay all day long. It's ugly, I'm bored and want to cut it off because looks are more important than function, right? :D :anonymous:
It pushes against the spokes, and is fairly soft.
The rotor is very solid, no flex. The Versys forum has 50/50 opinions on it with some cutting it off and saying it made no difference, and others "wanting to believe" the engineers had a purpose for it and it needs to stay. Some actually say it's for stability at speeds above 100mph, (bullshit) like some kind of gyroscope effect, which this bike will rarely if ever achieve. It looks like a forgotten piece of packing material to be honest. Or a crappy afterthought "fix".
Does anyone else have something like this on their bike?

I suppose the wise thing to do is disassemble the wheel to remove it in case it needs to go back on. Or sell it on Ebay...
But a knife would take care of it way quicker :notsure:

You're worried about how it looks? By my quick google search, most people who own the bike didn't even notice it til they saw posts about it, lol. You must be one of the few who pays attention. Personally, I'd leave it, as there must be SOME reason behind it.
