Yes, but for what reason? I noticed it the day I brought it home, and after googling, decided to leave it until more info was available.
It's not even pictured in the service manual...

And it's far from being centered, prolly not enough weight being so close to the hub to throw it out of balance. But being wedged against the spokes, that doesn't seem right.

Not being in the service manual makes me think it might be even more important. Was probably added to address some weird vibration that bothered folks, but wasn't found out until after release. Prolly one of those things most people wouldn't even notice though. I read so many people complaining about the vibration on my bike, i've only noticed it in a very limited RPM range, and it's NOTHING compared to the old ATVs i'd ride where your feet and legs were numb by the time you got off, lol.

I'm going to bet it's some BS safety thing that was their fix cus one person had a problem, or a noise thing cus someone complained of pinging spokes.

    Get rid of it.

FYI guys harbor freight has a 30% off items under 10$ up to 5 on one transaction!

Great time to stock up on useable items (zip ties, loctite, glue etc)

I've got something that isn't being used this second... and I sure hope it doesn't get removed...

Let's call this a learning moment, or getting to know the bike. Really was quite simple to remove.
Just need to find the proper torque specs for the brake rotor and I'll send it.

Now I know what it takes to get the front wheel off for a tube patch...

20 ft-lb is awfully light, but that's where it's at, with Loctite.
Looks much better, prolly get 80mpg now.

I noticed no difference at all. Brakes don't pulsate, no weird noises, front wheel didn't fall off. Took it around the reservoir where there are a few steep downhill areas so I could ride the front brake, worked like it did before. I think it was meant for shipping. :notsure:

High end sport bikes have floating rotors, meaning they jingle and have a fair bit of movement. I'm sure it's just a shipping thing, until you have a warranty claim and they lost their mind over a missing foam donut

Well learned something the hard way again. Casey came by to pick up the fender. He was happy with it but wanted it cut and buffed so it was super smooth and shiny. Like I said before it had what I would call a factory paint job with a little orange peel but not too bad. Anyway said he would pay for it. Well one coat of clear isn’t enough material no where near enough for that. Cut through in a couple of spots. So it’s time to strip, sandblast , re-powder with two coats of clear this time. Then a proper cut and buff.
Why do I always seem to learn the hard way?
I will never ever put less that two coats of clear on anything that might need to be cut and polished.
Never had a problem with getting a nice smooth finish when doing wheels.

Bought it used, no warranty. I'll do what I want with it. :D
I had to Google floating rotor, never heard of them before.

I don't quite understand the point even though most of my bikes have had them. Seems counter intuitive to have your stopping parts loose, but WTF do I know?

Supposedly it’s for possible brake rotor squeal. I would guess that it has happened enough that, that was the fix for it.

Edit: There is one on my KLX 300

It self aligns within the pads a bit better. Kinda like axial vs radial mounted calipers (but i think thats more beneficial)

That would be a seriously janky "fix" to a problem. Was going to say it looks like packing foam. I cannot express the amount of relief I feel, knowing you removed it!
