Will do and thank you sir. And you'll have a place to stay when you do. Maybe even some back yard fishing.

Can anyone here chime in and speak to the thoroughness of a Virgina Insoection? Would it cover things like rust etc? Looking at buying a truck that just passed so not sure if that makes me feel any better

It really depends on where you get it done. Some barely look at the car, others break out a magnifying glass.

You can do a search for the inspector's manual and see what it says about rust. I imagine if you have holes in the frame or into the passenger cabin it's not good.

IMO, it's more about the opportunity to sell wiper blades, brake pads and tires than anything else. Obvious terminal rust would result in a failure.

If the truck is from the coast or NoVA, expect there to be at least some rust.

Im also going to chime in about rust. Its likely not going to look at that that. Usually people are lined up to get an inspection done. And the inspector probably is doing 40+ cars a day. They're mainly looking for exhaust leaks, brakes, tire wear etc. anything that they can sell you on.

Theyre not going over the car with a fine tooth comb, and listing out everything that you have wrong.

After you buy, and want a second pair of eyes on it, feel free to message me. You can swing by my area on your way back home, and I can check out your new ride too

I wish you were close enough to look it over before I had to send them a wire to buy it.

If I lived in TN, I would not be shopping for a used truck in VA.
I live here and wouldn't be buying from here, unless I could go over with fine tooth comb.

Toyota dealership did a 160 point inspection on it today at my request, it also recently passed the VA inspection. It’s a 2013 with 83k miles 4.0 Trd sport for 19.9k it’s a steal.

yeah he went and I hate he had so much trouble. I appreciate the effort he put in but unfortunately he had no idea what he was looking for. Had I known up front he wasn’t very mechanical I wouldn’t have bothered to have him go.

I don't normally respond to these types of posts, but I feel compelled for some reason since I have shopped for used vehicles in this area and would likely pass on 99% of them. You can probably wipe your ass with that "160 point inspection" and that is about all it is good for. For the VA inspection? Big deal, the vast majority of vehicles pass for reasons others have already posted. If you think the vehicle is a steal at its current price, then it is probably priced that way for a reason (none of these dealerships are looking to cut you the deal of the century). As @ace_10 has said, unless you are willing to make the drive over here yourself and really take a hard look at it...that would be an easy pass for me. My two yennies...

    My two cents.

Coming from Michigan, I wouldn't be afraid of a used car that looks like it's been taken care of. The use of salt down here is miniscule compared to Michigan. And most car washes do a decent undercarriage flush (excluding those gas station ones). I will have had my truck, bought here, for seven years this October. And it's pretty clean underneath. I think as long as your diligent, and it wasn't used as a coastal dune buggy, it shouldn't be too difficult to find a good vehicle. Now, a fair price may be a bit more challenging.
