My buddies birthday is Saturday so told him to cancel plans and we're gonna go up and 'splore Henness and Yuba along with some surrounding lakes. Then of course Tacos Jalisco in truckee for lunch. May go down to White Rock and revisit the tree that assaulted my poor, defenseless truck.

On the topic of unreliable vehicles :boink:

I picked up my next project and drove it home from Birmingham AL last week. Didn't even make it halfway through Missouri before a CEL/DEF code popped up and gave me 10 remaining starts before it'll have to be towed. Tried to get the dealer in MO to clear the codes but they wouldn't plug it in for any diagnostic work for a week and I had to get home. made it back to Reno with 2 starts remaining, 1 to get to the dealer and 1 for them to be able to pull it into a service bay. It's a permanent code that only the dealer can clear unfortunately so it goes in to the dealer here on Monday.

Once it comes back I'm going to get a slot to have a pop top installed and then start the build. It's a 2016 4x4 with the 3.0 turbo diesel. Has a factory dual battery and aux heater (it was part of a run of wheelchair vans MB built in 2016 that had this spec) and should be a good ski and camping setup.

Not as capable off-road as a jeep or Tacoma but I'm keeping the truck so I won't have to beat the sprinter up too much. It eats up the highway miles and is more comfortable than the Tacoma doing it.

I've gone back and forth with myself about buying a benz sprinter camper, but just haven't been able to stomach the $90k for a new one. Keep us in the loop as you build yours. It'll do 90% of what a tacoma will do offroad if it's built correctly, and be a helluva lot more comfortable driving. I don't even like driving my taco over 300 miles in a day. My JK, while noiser, is a lot more comfortable than my truck

On the topic of new rigs, I picked up a new tow pig last weekend in Utah. '23 with 27k. Super clean, still had all the protectors on the handles and screens. The power and how effortless it moves, even with a trailer is crazy.

The new ones are awd without a low range and they have a smaller motor that isn't as receptive to tuning so the good news is you save some money by buying used if your after a proper 4x4 with 400+ ftlb of torque.

If I put $130k into my jeep, it'd compete well at the Hammers and I'd still have enough leftover to tow a very bougie bumper pull trailer behind it

Or I could buy a couple rentals somewhere in the midwest and just collect income off of them lol
