I had my first 5k service at the Toyota dealership on Wednesday. I've had the taco for almost one year and just hit 5k. They had no problem including the oil change. On the ticket they put that 5k service was declined. So, they did the 10k service. The 5k is pretty much nothing, so I'm good with that. One more freebie to go.

Lol...I am on your pace. 6 months in and at about 2700 miles. I brought my truck in for 5k service just to get tires rotated. I did my own oil change the next day.

Anyone have a link for where to buy OEM filters and washers online? I'm worried about buying knock offs. Maybe washers not so much.

Search part number online...buy from a Toyota dealer with lowest price/shipping. I have bought from both Sparks and Grieco Toyota dealers.

Saw a youtube test on a YZZDO1 toyota oil filter in. (Are car dealership oil filters a rip off ?) by brand pranks
and the flow rate was superior at the expense of filtering performance where all micron size levels were passed on to the engine significantly with basically no filtering in comparison to 16 other mfgrs. -time stamp at 9:28-
This filter is for the standard 2.4 liter non turbo model but I,m questioning now to stop using toyota filters as my first 1k oil change
showed a lot of fine particles in the oil pan that didn’t filter out and this video confirms poor filtering IMO and confirms it thru their testing..,.
watch the whole video though to get a handle on the testing method
will now be considering the Purolator boss as the best compromise of flow and filtering at the next 5k oil change and then 4k thereafter

    Link to the video?

Particles in the pan isn't necessarily abnormal, especially with a new engine. The moving assemblies are receiving filtered oil, but that oil falls straight to the pan. Initial cylinder or bearing wear will leave particles in the pan.

the oil grade has to do with fuel mileage.

Did mine today, used this oil drain pan that I've used for dozens of years with no issue. However, when the oil came out of the Taco, it was at such high volume and angle that the oil somehow "reflected" off the flat surface and shot out of the pan and on to the garage floor. No matter how I turned it, it just kept shooting back out of the pan. What a mess. Thankfully I have epoxy coating so it wipes up OK, but holy hell what a mess.

Next time I'm either draining it into a bucket, and then likely putting a Fumoto or something on there so I don't have to deal with this again.

I use this style, works well and avoids what happened to you. With the lid off there’s a big grid to catch the drain bolt if you drop it. Also good for finishing draining the filter.

Thanks! I think I had one like that way back in the day. Your "aim" has to be a little better with that than the rectangular one I have, but it should prevent the oil from reflecting back out from the flat surface. So odd, I've never had this happen in 45 years of doing oil changes :)

I suppose you could put that container up on a box or something to get it closer to the drain to make it less likely it would overshoot that hole. Or even hold it up yourself until the big "sploosh" of oil is done.

I just use a 2 gallon bucket and hold it right under the drain plug. I heard how watery the old oil is, so I came prepared. It does shoot out!

yes, with a side exit oil drain so you have to pay closer attention. But as you say, you can hold it up to catch the initial bit and lower it once the flow moderates.

that said, a Fumoto drain is really nice. I have one on my funcar. Downside is I don’t trust someone else to use it correctly and put the clip back. Think about that if you go that route, you’ll probably want to DIY future changes

Until I get too old to do it, I will always DIY my oil changes. I have 3 cars and a motorcycle so something always seems to need an oil change around here :)

I typically do as well, though last year I had a dealer coupon that was a great value and unexpectedly needed new tires at the same time. While it may be difficult to believe, this particular dealer is usually very competitive on tires.

A Fumoto valve with its tube fixes that issue.
