Colorado B.S. Thread

Anyone see an issue with this route at the end of August/early September? Going from Reno -> Dallas and going through CO and gonna spend some time with my sister before shipping out for Navy OCS. She's in Fort collins. She'll fly to Durango or Grand Junction. Goal is do some offroading/wind through the heart of the mountains in the parts of the state she hasn't spent much time in. Heres my route I think is doable for my truck (33's, rear locker, Full RCI skids, sliders) and obviously extreme caution and trail manners while on the mountain passes.



Imogene pass to yankee boy basin (telluride -> Ouray)
Engineer pass (Ouray-> Lake city)
Mosquito pass (Leadville -> Alma)
rest will be paved road or graded forest road

Also want to do lake Haiyaha or similar while in RMNP. Open to suggestions for sub 8 mile total (due to time & much more is too close to her limit) hikes to cool alpine lakes along the way. Looking forward to seeing CO in a different way than the Vail trip I took when I was 12 with my family, and Colorado has some of the other schools I was looking at before choosing Reno.

Hey CO gang. I am lookin to do the ECGS bushing in my '18 soon. Does anyone within range of Littleton/Lakewood have the removal tool handy from doing theirs? Would save me near $50 if I can borrow the tool to get my needle bearing out.

Should be fine, but recheck a few weeks before your trip. I’m guessing we’re going to have a wild fire season this year, which would cause closures.

get online and read up on the reservations/requirements to get into RMNP these days.

 

I have only driven mosquito pass but am doing a south west week long trip next month. Mosquito wasn't bad, more of a scenic drive.

Check the Montrose airport too. My wife is flying Dallas to Montrose. It was cheaper than Durango

 

My Favorite trail in CO is Imogene pass (your choice in direction Telluride to Ouray). Plus it just opened for summer

 

Hear ya on that one. Deal with that out here by Tahoe too. And good point on that, if it’s too much a hassle may not bother doing something INSIDE the park- because at that point the national parks feel like Disneyland if they’re too busy lol

Didn’t even know there was an airport there thanks for that.

I couldn’t really tell which one would be more noteworthy than the others and the direction works out for that one rather than easy to west that black bear is (that one’s only one direction right? Or was that something stupid I read online)

I've been wanting to explore ghost towns up here for a long time now. Anyone know which ones are accessible in a GX470? Has a 1" lift and 32" tires. I have the JK also, but it's a bit less reliable and roomy.

Google searching says St. Elmo is super popular. Would like to keep the drive within 3 hrs of Englewood or 2.5hrs from Dumont.

 

Anything is accessible if you aren’t worried about body damage.

 

St. Elmo / murphy mine is very doable pending weather. I went up in a a stock TRDP with 32s and maybe a 1.5-2 inch lift.

 

St Elmo is a dirt road, you can get anything to it.

Maybe its worth a drive for you for a tool that you'll only need once.

St Elmo, Hancock, etc is really cool if you can somehow ignore the 4000 side-by-sides filled with Bubbas and Bobby Jo’s.

 

Kind of. It’s my partners, not mine. The first one, silver, was totaled. The second one is going strong with 16k miles and a lifetime average of 72.5 MPG. We just took it to Telluride overloaded with a borrowed Yakima backswing and got ~34mpg highway average with all the weight and reduced aerodynamics of the roof crossbars and the bike sticking out above the slipstream.

 

Man, I'd love this as my daily (instead of Judas). But it's so far out of my realm of affordability. Especially right now with college fees coming down the pipeline.

 

With the “EV mandate getting killed” and the market cooling on EVs in general, I think there will be a few decent deals on some used ones with low miles. There are some downsides to the vehicle and if you don’t use it as a PHEV, like some owners don’t, it’s a complete waste to drive around a bigger, heavier battery that you don’t charge. Or the users that have tried using it as their teardrop towing machine will move up to a Highlander or bigger vehicle so it’s more tolerable…

I've been chasing a rattle under my truck for a bit. I always thought it was the rearmost heat shield but it never went away even though I'd snug down the nuts.

Finally had my daughter start the truck while I was under it and put it in drive/reverse. Don't worry, I told her I don't have a life insurance policy or anything valuable.

The secondary catalytic converter is rattling inside of it.

Is there anything I can do about it other than replacement?

Does anyone else have this issue?
