@rchrds Dunno what to tell you, I am definitely using CarPlay with only a wired connection. I have the truck's wifi disabled. I'm sorry you're having trouble, maybe your headunit is defective and needs to be swapped out by the dealer.

I like to get text and use the phone thru the truck I've only used that on Subarus and Fords.
When Toyota offers and highlights carplay and other tech as selling feature, it needs to work. Even if I never plan to use it.

I have an iPhone 15 Pro running iOS 18.5 and previous versions and I haven't had a problem. I also don't install any apps on my phone or have wifi turned on.

Can't find this elsewhere, but have notice that if Siri is reading me a text message, the system is not reducing the music volume. It's almost impossible to hear the message, and if you try to do a voice reply it also does not mute the music making it difficult.

Source doesn't matter, SiriusXM, Apple Music, etc. Every other car with ACP it reduces the music volume so you can hear what Siri is saying, and also if using voice to reply or give directions it reduces the volume. Not on the Tacoma.

Google searching seems to indicate this is an issue with most newer Toyotas. Anyone found a solution for this? Kind of annoying that a feature I use frequently (having texts read out loud) is basically useless on this truck.

There is a notification volume setting in the truck. Its default to low. Set it to high and you can hear the messages just fine.

I'll check it on mine. But does it turn down the music volume as well? And if responding to a message does it also reduce music volume? Every other car I've had with ACP works this way, but not this one.

Press and hold “Mode” on the steering wheel. Music will pause, play message, press “mode” music restarts.

My iPhone wont connect if i start the truck then go close the gate and walk back to the truck with it in my pocket. I have to go to settings and choose connect to phone and use with CarPlay. Sometimes the truck screen goes black using Car play and i have to hold the power button until it resets.

Mine does the same. Sometimes when I get in it does not connect to CP at all. At least a few times a week I have to hold down the power button to restart it. It works fine after that but it certainly does not work as well as the 24 Camry we have. Audio also lowers when playing back a text on the Camry but does not on the Tacoma. For 2 cars from the same manufacturer produced in the same year there are many difference between the two that is for sure.

Does your Camry have wireless CP/AA? We have a '23 SE (same gen as your '24) and it does not have CP/AA at all. Must be the higher trim level.

We got the highest trim level and IT DOES NOT. However we bought this off Amazon and so far it is amazing (only had it for a week). It makes it wireless.

All Camrys in the US since 2019 model year have wired CarPlay as a standard feature.

You're using it in your pocket how?

Anyway for reconnect issues, if you haven't yet gone into the carplay settings and forgotten / reconnect the truck I'd suggest that. Also make sure the CarPlay wifi network is set to auto-join.

I was at the dealer just now and its a known issue and theres no fix for it. They will probably update the infotainment system at some point is what the service writer said.

A solution in search of a problem?

My TV antenna doesn't work if I unplug it, but I don't want to use electricity to power the antenna. So, how can I watch TV? Common sense tells me I should plug the antenna into an outlet. Instead, I'm going to contact the manufacture to troubleshoot.

I believe he's talking about Bluetooth, not wired connection. If I'm wearing my Bluetooth headphones and I walk out of range of the phone, it disconnects. As soon as I walk back in range, it automatically reconnects without me having to do anything. I think that's what he's looking for here. Which is reasonable to expect because it's a normal Bluetooth function.

True, but once Wireless ACP connects, it switches to a WiFi connection. It only uses BT to "find" the ACP head unit and establish initial handshake, then it hands it all over to WiFi. That being said, my other cars don't seem to have an issue with leaving range and coming back, and have not tried it on the Taco since that's such a rare event in the first place.
