So is gambling, high end foods/restaurants, new vehicles, or destination vacations.

But that doesn't seem to stop people from doing any of those things.

Let the man change his oil every 200 miles if it makes him happy.

Cheap insurance changing your oil early , I find it amazing that people worry about changing there oil more often yet they will buy a 6 dollar cup of coffee every day at a Starbucks . No matter what anyone says the oil is cleaner at 5 k than 10 k . Now is the oil still good ? Probably , but why not keep the engine internals super clean . My 300 k corolla when I changed the valve cover gasket last year , the inside under the valve cover looked brand new . I don’t believe for one minute that keeping an engine that clean doesn’t make it more probable that the engine won’t last longer with out issues . I’ve done that with all my cars and never had an issue .

Toyota low tension ring motors are on the naughty list for frozen rings due to 10k oil changes. 10k oil changes sells cars and usually gets the car out of the warrenty period (but failed with thousands of certain Toyotas motors though). Virtue signaling oil abuse critics can pound lithium.

Why that would sell cars is also strange to me, and I know it does . I could understand certain wear items . But an oil change ? Anti freeze or other fluids .Your spending big money on these vehicles, take care of them and they will usually take care of you.Do you really need to take a shower every day?No
If you don’t in the summer especially you will probably stink lol.
10 k on oil is kind of the same thing . The oil still works but it’s got stuff floating in it , more stuff than with 5 k or less

Don't forget to put some thing to catch oil under the little drain hole or you will have oil all over every thing below it.

For the record i changed the oil on my 2014 rav 4 religiously at 7500 miles. 300,000 trouble free miles still going. 4 cylinder i might add. More critical than a 6 for oil changes

I stopped trusting dealerships after my last 4Runner ended up with 400 extra miles on the Odometer when I went to pick up after dropping it off for service (not an oil change, something that required me to leave it for a few days).

I change the oil in my 07 every 1,000 miles due to short trips/towing boat... about every 6-12 months depending on season. Done 36 changes without one issue. Never had a problem removing the filter... oil the gasket and just go a hair past hand tight. Attach a permanent section of 5/16 id fuel line to the drain catch basin nipple with a hose clamp and run it down through hole in skid plate... drain into pan on floor and cap off end of hose afterwards.

Had the stealership do the first front/rear diffs and transfer case to break factory plugs loose for 1st time. Takes a total of approx 7 qts of gear oil... got charged for 11. All service manager could come up with was "well, sometimes they take more".

Talked to 3 different service advisors at the same stealership about having the ecgs bushing done and got 3 different price quotes up to $300 difference... wtf?

Maybe one of the technicians was asked to move a friend. He said it was a 4runner...

Q: when do you know the service manager is lieing?
A: when his lips are moving.

Reality is a dealership can and does change overnight. They go thru managers and techs regularly. Generally, the dirtier the manager plays, the more the tech sucks up or pencil whips the papers the 'right" way... Been there, worked that life, seen it all, unfortunately.

I've seen a few credible reports claiming a major percent of dealerships will fail in the near future. The greed is collapsing them all.

Wow, thanks for the insight. That hits like a hammer. What concerns me is that there are 30+ (?) states looking to ban gas engine vehicles by 2030. I can only imagine a huge snafuu to the highest degree on the horizon. Can you imagine the vehicles at side of road that ran out of charge? (Assuming the US population remains the same as today)

Another interesting "fact" is the average dealership usually were concerned if they had 30 days of inventory. (Enough cars on the lot equivalent to 30 days worth of sales.)

Now many have 365 days of inventory.

Just accidently came across a huge lot with overstocked New Teslas in the back of a Pleasanton, Ca, mall. Zowie!
