Any woodworkers?

I finished our new cutting board this morning. 2 coats of Walrus Oil and a coat of Walrus Oil Wood Wax.

I've been a fan of Walrus Oil for years.. the small company has a great small business story too.

 

I’ve been a woodworker for almost 40 years. I’ve done some home building, but the vast majority of my time has been spent in high end custom cabinetry. I also do heirloom type furniture, with some niche side work in concealment furniture and unique custom powder room vanities. Made it through 07-08 and a pandemic. Wonder what’s next?

 

Forgive my ignorance, but what was special about 07-08?

I started another batch of necklaces for church. We have a lot of new people and I'm getting asked for them quite a bit.
This is all scrap from the larger crosses and I just run them thru the drum sander to thin them down.

Next thing is to drill the entrance holes.

I try and use many species of wood for varied colors so people have a choice.

 

Housing market crashed, took the entire economy with it. Government bailouts, banks shutting down.

 

Yep! I stood in a line of 1600 people applying for 1 job with the power company. Made it to final 3 only to find that the interview was a formality as they were going to hire the guy who was already working the job. Would love to see some of your work.

 

I made it to 09 before I got shit canned, 0% interest on products, 3% mortgage rates, the bubble burst big time

 

It isn't perfect by any means, but I learned new things with this one...

 

The adventure is the point. Anyone who receives that should be more than pleased.

Besides ... perfection is overrated.

Haha I'll never be perfect and you're absolutely correct.. its the adventure for me, learning new things, trying new things even if they don't work out and trying to make each day count.
