Frozen Side Windows.......anyone else?

It's been getting pretty cold up here lately and it's about that time of year when the temps don't get above freezing. My problem lately has been that everytime I want to roll my windows down, they are frozen shut. This has happened on dry days, wet days, snowy days, all the time. I don't see where any moisture is collecting in the window channel or weather stripping.

Is this happening to anyone else? If so, how did you fix it besides getting the window vents which I'm waiting for my taxes to order.

 

I had this problem on my 09 reg. cab with crank windows 2 weeks with a Michigan snow turned to sleet to ice, both windows froze solid. I'm going to take my truck in the next few weeks and will talk to service guys. I've had trucks which stick although not freeze so solid they will not crank down. Usually whatever side the wind blows from sticks but not both sides like this truck.

It happens to me also. I just wait for about 15 mins or so after I turn the heater on and I am good to go.

Doesn't happen to me anymore either.... I park in my barn. Saves me having to scrape the windows too.

 

happens to me when I park outside... happens all the time on my DD mazda which is parked outside... doesn't bug me anymore since I quit smoking... lol

 

using your AC with defrost for a bit will help remove some moisture from inside the cab and might help with your windows freezing. it happens to me all the time in WI - especially after car washes. snow and ice melting from my boots and puddling up in the mats is probably the cause for all my frosty windows

 

Careful, last month my passenger window actually broke when I tried to roll it down when it was frozen shut. It didnt shatter, just the little glass tab at the bottom broke off and the window got stuck at 1/2 way once it was warm and free. It sucked but luckily it was warrantied so the repair costed me 0.

 

happens to me 2... ya, putting the heat on defrost is the best thing you can do

 

Sounds like it's just one of those little things that you can't do much about until the truck warms up. For work I'm am subject to callouts at all time of the night so basically I have to roll out of bed and get right into the truck w/o it being warmed up and to keep the windows from fogging right up, I like to roll the window down a crack when it's 10 degrees. Guess I'll have to get a jump on getting the in channel vents.

 

Everyday it’s frozen up, and I am a smoker, but after 10 mins its GTG.
It is -10C here most of the winter.

 

Happens to me all the time, too. My previous vehicles' windows only froze with major ice. These Tacoma wondows get stuck if there was even a little dew a couple days ago. Maybe the Rain-x treatment will let them break loose a bit easier? I need to try that.

 

Yeah, my 07 Tacoma windows are always freezing shut.. and worse my Raider truck cap slider windows freeze shut (or open) also. I've got dogs that ride back there and like the cap windows open. Anyway, since using regular Rain-X treatments (the type for exterior glass surfaces) on the outside of the windows everything has worked pretty well. No more stuck windows. It still helps to let the cab warm up a bit 1st before trying to open them. And the Rain-x product wears off over time and use (up and down windows) so you'll have to reapply it.. which can be dicey when you can't get a dry covered area to put it on.. also, it likes to be applied in above freezing temps. So, a garage is perfect. But then, if you had a garage for your truck then you wouldn't be having this problem would you? So, do what I do, make friends with someone that has a garage and use it to apply/re-apply the Rain-x treatment. BTW- only apply rain-X to a super clean window surface..

 

I took a double pronged approach to this issue. I applied the Rain-x to the windows... and I took some silicone spray, soaked a rag, and applied it to the outer window wiper lip. Hopefully this will reduce the adhesion to ice a bit. Tacoma is in the garage for now, but will have to start living outside again soon.

Good idea. I was thinkg there must be some product made to keep glass from freezing to seals...maybe something in the boat or airplane product list would suit our needs? Some of you northerners out there must have some kind of fix for this.

 

Same thing happens to me, I pull the truck into the basement at work where we have a wash bay with hot and cold hooked up to a hose. I hose off the entire truck, melt off all the snow and ice with steaming hot water.

 

Window freeze hasn't happened yet to me with my Taco, but with my leaky, old XJ it's a major problem.
What I do, is put a small, electric heater in it overnight, set on low-med.
It's the only car in the neighborhood that doesn't have ice on it in the morning and it's like summertime inside
Yeah, it does cost electricity.

 

Yup, me too had problem last winter and then early winter now. I just sprayed some Jig a Loo spray
