    Hi everyone,

I’m new to the group and recently purchased a 2025 Tacoma SR. At the time, I believed I was getting the SR5 trim, but I later realized it was actually the SR.

I’m trying to understand the main differences between the SR and SR5 models. I knew I didn’t want the TRD Sport, but now I’m wondering: was I shortchanged or did I end up paying SR5 pricing for an SR model?

Appreciate any insight from those more familiar with the trims.

    Thanks,
    Moe

Congrats on your new truck and welcome to Tacoma World. Is it the Auto or Manual?

We don't know what you paid, your region of the country (which affects pricing) or what you were promised.. so I'm not really sure how any of us can answer your question.

You can go through a theoretical build at toyota.com/configurator and it will give you MSRP for your particular configuration. You can then run a similar one as if you had an SR5 and compare to your sticker price and your eventual actual cost.

Did you sit in or drive the two models? Unless you got the manual, you have a detuned engine. If you got the double cab, you have a leaf spring rear (an SR5 double cab has coil spring rear). I think the biggest exterior difference is no fog lights. Interior I believe uses the same cloth seat upholstery. If those things don't matter to you/you didn't even notice, then you saved money. Why do you think you paid SR5 pricing for your SR?

VIN isn't giving any info other than double cab and 2WD. Sticker on an SR with Upgrade is 37K, TX sales tax (8%?) would push it to 40K. Not sure what the other 4K got you.

Toyota has a VIN decoder on their site. This one is a black on black 2WD SR DCab with port added spray on bed liner.

In Austin, they try to sell you tint, paint protection, nitrogen, and even an additional delivery fee. San Antonio is just as bad. You have to drive up to Boerne to find a reasonable Toyota dealer.

That seems like a LOT for an SR. Probably paid close to $5K to buy down the interest rate to 0% though. My dealer here is offering 0% OR 5,000 off MSRP. I paid $45K for a loaded SR5 4x4, and took the 4.9% financing from Toyota for 60 months instead.

Also, SC has a cap of $500 on sales tax on vehicles. If you had to pay full fare, like 8-9%, then that would add thousands to your final price.

I paid $37k plus tax and registration for an SR5. The difference between an SR and SR5 is that the SR has 50 less horsepower and no oil cooler.

I bought mine at the one in boerne, only because its within walking distance to my house. They tried to slip any and every extra they could in on the deal, from $1k gps trackers to $4400 warranties. I feel like its a toyota dealer thing to out shady the other brands.

It's definitely a regional thing. When I was stationed at Fort Sam, I was amazed at the BS dealer add-ons (regardless of brand) in the south Texas market. Nobody does that around here in Mid-Mo. Folks wouldn't put up with it.

Anyway, when I was looking at 2nd Gens (tells you how long ago that was), Boerne were the only reasonable folks in the greater SA area. Sorry to hear that changed.

It's not Toyota. It's just each dealer. I always do research regardless the brand and contact dealers to find the one's who do as few preloads (add ons) as possible and never buy from the ones that splice up new wiring with GPS, alarm or ignition disabling devices. I found a Toyota dealer 150 miles from me who does NO preloads and absolutely no hassles about extended warranties, plus has discounts and gave me above KBB for my trade.

Using Toyota's website, I built a Supersonic Red Tacoma SR 4x4 with the SR Upgrade Package and Towing Package and the Total SRP was $38,810. 44K seems high, unless the truck is loaded with options. If you really want the SR5 and you have email or text messages, I'd go have a talk with a sales manager. Welcome to TW and good luck.

Yep, some dealers are scummy AF, some are not. Fortunately the one I bought from mostly just offered extended warranty, tire protection, etc. None was pre-installed or added onto the sticker price - only if you wanted it. They took "No" for an answer on the EW and didn't try to strong-arm me into any after-market finance office add-ons.

No nitrogen tire inflation, no lo-jack, no clear bra, no window tint, nothing.
