I have done hours of research on Tacoma tire fitment. Ive watched all of Tinkerer's adventure's videos, I've read every fitment thread on here and then some, and its still unclear because of the amount of variables: what skinnies even fit the Tacoma? I have a 2023 sr5, and I'm wondering if there's anyone out there running 255/85/16s? I'm pretty much set on buying 235/85s out of fitment concerns since I don't have the TRD lift. I'm on the stock SR5 wheels- the gray painted ones. I believe I have a 25mm offset. Let's clear up for anyone else looking into switching to skinnies- what even fits?

Appreciate your links, but as I said, despite digging through all these threads the answer remains unclear. The best guess I have is one guy who said "he's seen it done" on stock suspension, but who knows if it needed a BMC. The rest of the threads are OR owners who have a different suspension setup. I also checked out your build thread, and I see you've got normal tires, 265s and 285s. I'm still unclear about sr5s.

What are the wheel specs of an sr5 vs an offroad? That will answer your question. But odds are it will be well under a 0 offset so you'll be fine. Maybe a tweaked alignment and removed mud flaps but I don't think I have heard of a single fella needing a cmc to fit a 255

SR5s are the same height as OR’s (all except Pro and Trail are for that matter), so anything that clears an OR should clear yours. Considering people run 255/85 on the stock OR 16x7 +25mm wheels, that ought to work just fine for you too since your wheels are dimensioned the same.

I don’t remember if they work in all conditions with mud flaps or not though. I feel like flaps need to be gotten rid of or else you’ll rub in some scenarios maybe.

It’s the nature of the beast. There are many variables and not every situation is exactly the same. That said, 255/85r16 on stock wheels is very likely to work. The only things you might need to do is remove mud flaps and/or get an alignment done by a tech that is experienced with fitting oversized tires.

    When in doubt, gas it!

FYI: I am running 255/85r16 mud terrains on the stock OR wheels and I have stuffed them many times without an issues. I did need to get an alignment at a local 4x4 shop though. They rubbed sometimes after the alignment I got at my normal shop.

Yes, the 255/85R16 with stock +25 OR rims work with an alignment to push the tires forward. Others say your SR and my OR have the same suspension. I cannot vouch for that. It has been sometime but I don’t even recall removing my mud flaps. Just one problem, the 255/85R16s do not come in many varieties.

EDIT: I also had my doubts, to eliminate them I took the spare tire purchased one tire and tried it out to see if it did indeed fit.

EDIT2: I did this twice, once for 33" and again for 35".

Only the shocks (and maybe the coil springs) are different and shocks (and springs) do not figure into tire fitment.

Things that matter are tire diameter, tire width, wheel width, wheel offset/backspacing, alignment, wheel well shape, and bump stops.

All or that is identical between a stock OR and stock SR5, except that not every truck has an identical alignment.

Thank you everyone! Really good info, and glad to hear that at least the geometry is correct even if not yet documented. I didnt know the OR and sr5 have the same height- I made a false assumption based on differing part numbers for the shocks. My sr5 wheels are confirmed +25 alignment, so everything here seems correct.

With oem offset, 255's will fit no problem, and you will be able to keep your mud flaps.

But a 2" Bilstein 5100 lift will make it look even better. And it will ride even better due to losing the oem brake dive, with the lift. Heck, even a 1" lift will do wonders..
