Fortnine has an interesting video on padding. Basically, in all but parking lot speed tip overs, padding doesn't really reduce the force enough to be noticeable in the injury outcome.

That said, I left the pads that came installed in mine, but have no plans to add any

That video got flamed, rebutted, disputed, etc HARD. It's still beneficial to reduce the transferred energy, broken bone vs shattered bone.

Also worth noting that video came out on April 1st.

When you guys buy pants, are you sizing them to wear over regular jeans, or sizing them with boxers/shorts underneath only?

Obviously most of my riding was offroad growing up... but the MASS majority of all my wrecks were low speed tipovers/over the bars, etc. Hopefully if I ever wreck on the street, it'll be similar speeds and the pads have me standing up and walking right away with zero injury.

And if ever I do t-bone a car at speed, hopefully my airbag vest does it's job.

You're a braver man than me. The idea of getting stuck out in the desert solo does not appeal to me at all. Having done so with my truck a couple times was enough

I deleted YouTube from my phone shortly after that video as I was spending too much time on it, so never saw the feedback to the video. I can say, I don't miss the time suck of YouTube and highly recommend deleting it.

The Doctor, the Tornado and Kentucky Kid is one of my favorites. I was at that race and all of the MotoGP races at Laguna after they returned.

Faster and Fastest are both really good MotoGP docs narrated by Ewan McGregor. There's also an Amazon Prime series called MotoGP Unlimited that's worth watching.

Never even considered pants as something to go over jeans, unless it was a waterproof cover / option.

Sized mine with just boxers, doubt you'd be able to get anything else under them other than thermal liner / compression wear.

Finally found a small jump in the forest I could take on, sessioned it a handful of times and felt good, still no skid plate so need to watch the landing still.

Also lost my license plate on the highway back, zip ties were still holding a small chunk on where it broke / cracked around. Going to need to actually put more thought into a proper mount now.

My riding pants are over-pants. I wear jeans for city rides, and my riding pants over shorts or jeans for longer trips or highway rides.

IDK if my input will be equatable since I only have sport bikes, but i size them to go over boxer briefs/compression pants only.

Rode the bike to work for my shift last night. Man, I wish I had more time to ride. Need to win the lottery so I can just bum around on a bike forever. It's so relaxing.

It was cold going home though. Forgot to close my chin vents, so I had chilly wind in my face, but it's a short ride home.

I need quiet lunch time and have to pick my kid up most days so I truck to work. But I do enjoy riding to work once a week.

I always wear a neck warmer of one sort or another. Sucks when the air rushes past all the gear.

I had my gaiter on, but not covering my nose/mouth. Besides the wind being cold on my face it wasn't bad. The marrakesh breathes well, but blocks enough wind that it wasn't cold, and the heated grips on the ST were perfect to keep the chill off my fingers.

I usually drive the truck because it's I am either going to work or coming home at 0600, depending on nights or days, and it's always just a bit chilly at my elevation. We'll hit the 80s/90s later that same day, but it'll be below 50° pretty regularly at that hour.

I find if I cover my mouth I fog up too easy, I run hot. At most I'll run it under my chin strap.

I dont mind a one way ride under 10C/50F but it damn well be warmer after I get off work or I'm not taking the bike. 3500ft here, nothing crazy.

I agree on both points. I wear my gaiter "eskimo" style according to the graphic below. I also use it to keep the chinstrap from pulling beard hairs. The neck and throat coverage is plenty for me even with it being kinda thin.

As for the temps for riding, I will do a one way cold trip as well. I'm more likely to do it during the night shifts because I don't want to wake up and be cold on the ride in, plus I actually get to work early so it's even colder going in on days.

Most preferred for me is taking the truck in the morning, popping home on break, and riding the bike back to the office. This way I dodge the cold morning and can take a longer ride going home if I wish.

I ride commando (JK), don’t try it nekked either. A hot heat is very unforgiving, I heard from a friend.

i genuinely have it as a life goal to ride completely naked at some point in my life :anonymous:

I'm imagining it as the ultimate form of that 'free in the wind' feeling

My shop is literally the downstairs of my house, if I have to work in the field I take a van or the truck. I do have to make a trip up north to only look at some stuff this week, so I'll definitely take the bike for that. Sometimes it'd be nice to have a job to commute to, Seattle is absolutely unbeatable this time of year
