Any pictures of the front and rear shocks? Looking at the rear shock in the first post I can see a hint of blue, which makes me think 2wd trd offroad. TRD offroad bilstein shocks are yellow and blue. Post #24 shows the rear diff lock button, which is also from a 2wd trd offroad.

The fenders were paint matched, swapped with an sr5 as those came with painted fenders or ordered from Toyota and installed.

The black rear bumper caps are easily swapped. Someone probably didn't want chrome and swapped them for black, painted them or plasti dipped them.

I almost bought a blazing blue pearl Tacoma. I wanted black, but the dealer didn't have any new ones on the lot. Mostly white, grey, and blue. I settled on magnetic grey metallic as it was close enough to black.

OP mentions heated seats. If heated seats are factory then it originally came with BSM too which would be body colored end caps (see page 12 of this PDF).

I am changing my guess to a Sport with a flat hood swap or Off Road with body colored fender flares.

I think it was figured out in post #7 and confirmed in post #24. 2wd off-road.

How does anything that can be bolted on, removed, painted or swapped provide evidence of what this truck originally was, nine years ago?

You can walk into any Toyota dealer to get a copy of the original window sticker and dealer service/recall history.

Or, install Toyota app on your phone, register, log in, enter your VIN. Then you will see the vehicle specifications under Vehicle Info tab.

Assuming you just don't know where to find the VIN on the vehicle and look it up easily, are you not able to look at the title, the sale paperwork, or your insurance card? How do people buy vehicles and not know what they are?

What we figured out was true, from a certain point of view.

The sport, SR5 and the limited all had color matching fender flares. The off-road and pro have the black plastic non-painted flares.

This particular model had the locker, so determined to be an off-road, but the fender flares are painted, so determined those were swapped out at one point in time. It's a common thing to do for folks who don't like the unfinished black fender flares. :notsure:

The SR5 and the off-road (TRD) headlights look similar, except the off-road has LED running lights around the chrome bezel.

    Screenshot_20250701_121136_Chrome.jpg

SR5 has the Chrome bezel with the running light built into the turn signal

Its 2025. With an entire world's worth of knowledge at your fingertips, literally anyone (including OP) can perform this task. But I'll ask again:

How in the word do people buy vehicles and they don't even know what they are? I understand not knowing every single difference between trims, I'm not referring to that; I'm referring to simply not knowing what vehicle is right above the dotted line where you're signing. The differences between the lowest and highest trims of any brand/model of car is often multiple thousands of dollars.

Oooh, it’s becoming a common thing in real estate too. People not reading, seeing or understanding disclosures. Even worse, getting inspections after the close of escrow. ….but! They all know how to bitch and whine and are always sure they’ve been screwed.

When I bought my house in 2019 I got all the inspections I could. I feel like they didn’t check a damn thing lol

Friend of mine bought a house in Monterey Park(L.A.), after all the inspections and closing, just to find out there's no AC, never had one. Originally built in the 60's, only had furnace. This was way before mini split units are a thing. He didn't live there for long.
