Yeah, I mean that is the terminology they use but last week Daniel was talking about how much he likes driving for TH and how this is the best team he has ever been with. I like Suarez, I think he is good for the sport. He is better than Bubba and I expect he will find a ride because NASCAR needs him in the series too.
In my opinion NASCAR has a developing problem in that Xfinity and the truck series have drivers who are ready to move up and they have no place to go. Drivers used to get to cup in there 30's. Jeff Gordon was the start of the get em young movement but when these guys have 20 year careers it just does not work. Couple that with leaving drivers in seats because of political reasons or your dad is Rick Ware and you have a problem.

Hard to say, honestly. The cup car drives so much different than Xfinity and trucks (not to mention the lack of cup drivers racing in those series) so maybe getting him in cup earlier will give him more time to develop.

Austin Dillon:anonymous:. I wonder how much more money RCR could be hauling in and investing if they got that second car filled by someone with actual talent. Especially given that RC said that the lack of playoffs cost the team $3M.

I’d never thought to compare these two, but they’ve both been around for roughly the same time.

    Wallace:

    8 Full seasons
    273 races
    2 wins
    25 top-5s
    52 top-10s
    3 poles
    773 laps led
    19.4 avg start
    19.8 avg finish
    10th Best Championship points finish
    Source: Racing Reference

    Suarez:

    9 Full seasons
    305 races
    2 wins
    23 top-5s
    71 top-10s
    3 poles
    886 laps led
    19.1 avg start
    19.0 avg finish
    Best championship points finish: 10th
    Source: Racing Reference

Their stats are practically identical. Suarez does have 2 less top-5s, 19 more top-10s, and 113 more laps led, but he also had one more full season (36 races to Bubba’s 4), to gather the additional metrics. If we played with a Bell curve, tossing the highest and lowest performances, these guys are nearly identical, which is something I never realized.

Having followed since I was 9 years old in the early '90s, all the current drivers are kids to me. If they have bad attitudes, I think, "Eh, they're young and have a lot to learn." I like Saurez's optimism, but he also gives off Teacher's Pet vibes, which could be said about most of these modern drivers.

I've come to appreciate the more disruptive drivers, as long as they own it and don't try to hide behind clever remarks. Logano toes a fine line between giving it his all on track and cheesing outside the car, "aw shucks" style. I've come to appreciate the dichotomy- he's there to do his job. Given the sterile environment of modern NASCAR (It hasn't gone "woke," it's just corporate America's investment into the sport since the mid-1980s), I appreciate most drivers who don't fit the mold of a clean-cut corporate spokesperson. And even for some of the more "rough" drivers, it seems like an act. Who among these drivers has the most genuine personality? Most would be a bore to hang around with.

Gone are the drivers like Jimmy Spencer and Dick Trickle, who could beat you on the track and knock you to sunrise in the garage.

    Clean cut, All-American:
    1-Ross Chastain
    3-Austin Cindric
    5-Kyle Larson
    6-Brad Keselowski
    7-Justin Haley
    9-Chase Elliott
    12-Ryan Blaney
    16-A.J. Allmendinger
    19-Chase Briscoe
    20-Christopher Bell
    21-Josh Berry
    22-Joey Logano
    24-William Byron
    34-Todd Gilliland
    35-Riley Herbst
    38-Zane Smith
    41-Cole Custer
    42-John Hunter Nemechek
    43-Erik Jones
    45-Tyler Reddick
    48-Alex Bowman
    54-Ty Gibbs
    60-Ryan Preece
    71-Michael McDowell
    77-Carson Hocevar
    99-Daniel Suarez

    Rough around the edges:
    3-Austin Dillon
    4-Noah Gragson
    8-Kyle Busch
    10-Ty Dillon
    11-Denny Hamlin
    17-Chris Buescher
    23-Bubba Wallace
    47-Ricky Stenhouse
    88-Shane Van Gisbergen

I really like Chris Buescher. Hate that he drives a Ford but that is probably the closest thing the sport has to a Harry Gant type of personality. Just a simple really good dude who does what he does. I remember when Dale Jr invited all the drivers to come out to North Wilkesboro when they were trying to clean it up to reopen it and he said that the only driver who showed up was Chris who had a weed eater on the back of his truck and he worked for 10 hours and then just got in his truck and went home.

At this point just run a weekly series at Atlanta. That is the best racing this gen car has provided and honestly one of the most entertaining races I have seen in years. Not even because of the wreck. I think had those cars not been taken out it would have been even better. It is nice to see someone actually be able to pass without a lot of help. And drivers rewarded for taking massive risk.

NASCAR keeps coming up with this gimmick stuff like stage points and brackets. Just put a car out there that can race at every track like it does at Atlanta and the people will come.
