I completed my first furniture project in several years last week.

It's a basic coffee table about 30"x20" and 18" high. I used dowel joinery and it's made from reclaimed/recycled/free wood, and used old stain and oil based polyurethane I had on hand. The only things I purchased for the project were a set of 5/16" dowel centers, a box of 5/16" dowels, and sandpaper. Took about 2.5 weeks working a few hours here and there on evenings and weekends

I didn't need a coffee table, but I had the itch to make a wood project and didn't want to invest too much into my first project after a long woodworking hiatus. My plan from the beginning was build the table and then list it on marketplace, but I have no idea how much to list it for because I spent way too much time on it for the mediocre result haha.

Tabletop after sanding, before stain. Pegged breadboard ends.
These boards were pieces from a bed frame and had several existing holes that needed to be plugged as well.

    Completed.
4 coats of oil based polyurethane. Final smoothing with 0000 steel wool. Hand buffed Johnson paste wax.

I'm happy to have completed another project after several years off, but I could tell it's been too long and I was out of practice. Learned some lessons and I'm looking forward to the next project hopefully going smoother.

Thanks! I like how the taper came out too. First time I've done a taper like that.

Finally finished the Hard Maple and Cherry shoe rack. It will live at my sister’s mountain condo in South Lake Tahoe where shoes will be wet and snowy in the winter. She wanted glossy, so I sprayed on a gloss spar urethane finish.

Not wood working but shop related. I got the new compressor for the shop down into the basement. It's new home will be on the other side of the shop wall in the furnace room. It will then have clean dry air.
Adding the supplied 30wt non detergent oil for the pump.
    20250701_181834.jpg
I'm going to run wire for this so it will be on its own 20 amp circuit. There will be a switch in the shop to turn it on and off.

Glossy has just protectant. Semi-gloss and satin replace some of that protectant with light-scattering particles. Some will put base layers of gloss and a final layer of satin for some light-scattering at the end.

I also made two of these wall hanging plant propagation stations while waiting for finish to dry. I used a key hole router bit so they can be hung from a screw in the wall. My wife and sister are both crazy plant ladies and they feed me these odd ideas from social media.

I got the electrical for the new compressor done today and it only took 3 trips to the hardware store, lol. My pvc glue turned to jello.
Switch for the compressor will be in the shop so hopefully the idiot that works in it will remember to shut the compressor off when he leaves. I still gotta pick up a cover for the switch, I didn't have one on hand.
    20250702_164311.jpg
20 amp dedicated and switched line is in.
I ran it for 30 minutes with the drain valve open to break in the pump.
    20250702_165332.jpg
Nice that it has an hour meter.
    20250702_165353.jpg
Drain valve on the front is a nice touch too.
    20250702_165359.jpg
Connected an air hose and ran it into the shop. This compressor is so much quieter than the old one. This one has an induction motor and it's quiet.
    20250702_172636.jpg
This is what it's replacing. About a 20 year old porter cable twin stack hot dog compressor. It's noisey as can be. But it is an oil bathed pump so that's what it's lasted as long as it did. It still works so I'll find someone to give it too.

Not where I typically pick up materials for my next build, but it is an outdoor furniture project. The blue stores in my area carry a nice selection of California Redwood. I think I got every straight one from the stack.

Well sincebthe run for the air hose for the compressor is longer I needed to pick up another one. So harbor freight it is and another 15% off coupon, lol. Got this hose for about $16.

It matches the existing hose too.

The I drilled about a 100 or so holes.

Outdoor, bar height, round table build started. The top is about 1 1/2 inches thick. The outside edge of this octagon will be cut using my router and a jig into a circle. Slats will then be recessed into the inside dado to fill in the top. Just dry fit for now.

Simple project today. Got 8 done, the guy wants 30. Wasn’t sure what to charge. Ended up at $10 each. They’re all about 6 x 2 x 1.5”.

If it covers materials cost and a little for your time, better to undercharge and make them happier for future business.

Anyone have any experience with this? Planer blades are getting expensive, I thought about trying one of these out.
