Needed a brain break today, so went and noodled and walked around Hazen's Notch a bit this morning. Was nice to get in before the heat. The Montgomery end was smooth enough that I wasn't paying attention later. The Lowell end was washboardy and it kicked my back around a bit until I slowed down lol. Nobody parked at the trails either, nice!

Hazens notch I know it well!
We had a deer camp on mines rd. Lowell side. We used to run the notch all the time.
Had a tavern at the bottom of the Montgomery side we would visit!
Let’s not forget the bowling alley and dance hall.
Back in the day so much snow!!

It's a dirt road a few miles long that cuts across the long trail at this end, middle is not maintained in winter. Not a heavy off road adventure but nice thick woods and trail head.
This from wiki about "Hazen" (relation maybe?)-

The Bayley–Hazen Military Road was a military road that was originally planned to run from Newbury, Vermont, to St. John's, Quebec, not far from Montreal. The southern 54 miles (87 km), running from Newbury to Hazen's Notch near the Canada–United States border, were constructed between 1776 and 1779 during the American Revolutionary War. Portions of the road's route are used by modern roads today.

The road is named for the principal proponents of its construction. Jacob Bayley and Moses Hazen were among the founders of Newbury and nearby Haverhill, New Hampshire, and Hazen also had property interests at St. John's. The idea for the road featured prominently in several proposals (promoted primarily by Hazen to George Washington and the Second Continental Congress) for invasions of Quebec by Continental Army forces following the failed 1775 invasion.

Yeah, good backwoods drive. Was funny though seeing the pickup towing a medium size livestock trailer going the other direction. Glad I didn't get him at the narrow twisty corner hill.

Actually got turned around a bit on a Lowell road after crossing 100 and got lost for a few minutes lol

Was definitely a 4 wheel drive in the winter.
After deer season the top of the notch was closed to vehicles and became snowmobile trafficked. I remember a few times meeting snowmobiles during deer season.
They were just as surprised as I was.
We had a 12x70 mobile home on mines rd.
So much snow it would be pretty much 1 lane. 1 yr it was so bad the mobile home was almost hidden buried in snow!
The dance hall was byob and no age limit!
The bowling alley gave a free beverage if you broke a pin.
At the tavern in Montgomery a waitress girl dragged a guy being a dick outside! We thought about helping her but she didn’t need it and we would have been in the way!

I'll have to stop by when I'm in the area. I've done most of my modding myself (or with others from TW), and I've got a good local mechanic, but I'm always looking for someone to do the stuff they don't want to do and I don't necessarily have the time for.

Had to look up mines road and went aha! We looked at a house on there back in the day when in search mode. Didn't know much at the time, and found it was in view of "the great big pile" haha. Sounds like a fun old Vermont-y area. Not far from Jay Peak, so probably getting some snow spinoff from there, they avg like 360 inches or something rediculous.

Yea the mines have some large piles for sure! Not 100% sure but I think it was asbestos mining?

Didn’t hunt a lot more of a father son uncles and friends time.

Yeah was a big asbestos production.

Went to look up some more on it to refresh and found... a website. Holy F, what did I just stumble into lol

    https://www.vermonter.com/wampahoofus-vermont-legend/

Apparently they do Vermont cryptid, haunted, folklore type of stuff. The wampa was the first thing that caught my eye. Gonna have to put on some Black Sabbath and dive into this further in the evening for the funs :alien:

So free used tires if anyone wants ! (NW Vermont)

I have four toyo at2 265/75-16 load c. I had them on my 2013 for about 40 or 45k miles before taking them off. Nowhere near new but there's still a little life left in them. Probably 6 or 8 years old, no rot or holes, and I had them in the basement since take off (not outside). I won't be putting them on my 23 at this point, so just want to get them moved out. They may be good for rough spares or if you want to take off and keep what you have on some vehicle, and then replace with these if you're getting rid it. I would say though not for ideal heavy winter uses at this point.

Any interest and I can get more detail - photo, official Abe Lincoln international measurement unit lol, etc.
