So I have a 2019 Tacoma 3.5 and when I press the ac button the light comes on for about 5 seconds then turns off. I can hear the rpm’s raise and drop when it turns off and on. I had the A/C recharged to see it that was the issue but it wasn’t. Anyone know what would cause this? thanks

Check the ac relay. Switch relays to see if it solves the problem.

If you had the A/C recharged, did they first find the leak?
If not, it very could have leaked again. It sounds like it might be low and short cycling. But the clutch does sound fairly common too.

They did not find a leak. I am going to try and find if it is leaking or not. How would I tell if the clutch is bad on it.

I am not being snarky, but if it needed a charge, it leaked from somewhere. Of course who knows how much or if they even charged it all.
As far as the clutch, I dunno. You could search it here, and you will see more than one thread, maybe someone posted up how to repair. I do remember reading the switch isn't for sale through Toyota, they want to replace the whole darn compressor.

The light turning off on 3rd gens is pretty much like the A/C light flashing on 2nd gens, it indicates the A/C Amplifier isn't getting the correct signal from the Lock Sensor on the compressor.

Does the compressor clutch come on while the light is on and then go off or does it not come on at all?

    Possible causes are:
Open or shorted wire(s) in the lock sensor circuit
    Bad lock sensor
    Failing MG CLT Relay
    Internal problem in the compressor
Open or shorted wire(s) to the MG CLT relay
Open in the wire from the MG CLT relay to the compressor
    Failed compressor clutch
    Belt slipping
    Failed A/C amplifier

I had a second gen do this and the rubber on the A/C clutch melted, might be worth looking at. it was a $20 fix
