I have a brand new Tacoma Off Road hybrid, load bars over the cab, a SmartCap shell and platform rack on the shell. I have BF Goodrich TA's. I have 3500 miles on it and I am getting 14.2 MPG average. Is that an average for all time or the last 2 tanks of gas or what? What kind of mileage are some of you getting? Could the shell/platform/bars whack my mileage that much? I'm 65 and don't have a lead foot. Seems I should expect 18-20 but...

That’s pretty depressing, that’s what my 400hp 3/4 ton work trucks gets! Interested to hear what others are getting.

Well, you are not rocking a great aero package with the stuff up top; air dam delete; and the gnarly tires. The Fuelly average on the few hybrids that have been entered is 18 and change. The TH is ~16 MPG. You should be able to squeeze 18 out of it I would think.

    My supercharged 2015 with a 4.0L V6 gets 18 on the highway…with a camper.

    Something seems off.

I’ve got about 2K on the meter and getting 19 mpg for lifetime mileage so far. Advertised at 22/24 no? The lifetime mpg for my 4Runner is 18.3 so I’ll say I expected more of a difference. But I get the hybrid is mostly about power and fewer emissions at this point.

What size tires and what Load rating are those? The shell shouldn't affect it but the roof items will add some drag. 14mpg is pretty piss poor.

I'm getting 21.7mpg on my last two tanks in my stock non-hybrid '25 TRD OR. Truck has 1300 miles on it and current tank will be over 22mpg. I do drive conservatively 90% of the time. If I see a red light ahead I let off gas earlier than most folks.

MPG over 22.5 all include road trips between 140 and 440 miles. MPG under 18 involved towing and loaded bed.

Let's see how badly this pastes in.

Based on the comment "last 2 tanks" I'm guessing that you are looking at the calculated MPG on the gauge cluster. That has 2 settings. One is avg. MPG since last engine start and the other is avg. MPG since last reset (manual claims there is a setting to reset when you fill up, but it's not on my truck).

What I recommend to people with questions about low MPG is:
Find a stretch of highway that will not have stop and go traffic. At least 50 miles one way.
Fill your tank and reset a trip meter.
    Reset the fuel economy meter.
    Drive out and back.
Fill up again and calculate your mileage.

The setting to reset at fill up is in the main display menu.
On your main display, click on the vehicle icon, the trip information, tap history, tap update. You will see the bar graph advance and your overall mpg on the MID will be reset.

I have 4.2K on a limited, the dash display shows 21.2 since new. About what I was expecting the way I drive.

This is pointless information unless you have everything the OP has on his truck.

I disagree. It still helps with a benchmark for the truck,

While OPs changes will impact his MPG it would seem unlikely they’d reduce it by 33%

Now, did you have something to contribute here?

I see the smart cap as an advantage when it comes to mpg.
    I agree.

No it doesn’t. There are tons of mpg info online and in this forums already. This guy is comparing mpg on a stock truck that has 4x4 all time vs RWD truck with heavy truck cap and bigger heavier wheels. Absolutely useless information.

Advantage how? Aero? How about extra weight in the back. Have you considered that as an advantage? What about the bigger and heavier tires?
