Trip MPG is quite accurate for a single trip or two with no engine shut off.

Yes, Aerodynamics. Are you having a bad day, LOL? I agree with you about tires and the roof rack.

If it’s useless to you, why are you wasting your time following this thread?

And frankly, it’s rather arrogant of you to decide for @Bluesky KCMO whether or not the info is useful to them.

Not bad. These number are on par with non-winter driving for my 3rd gen + cap+ air dam + reasonably efficient wheel/tire package. Towing cuts trip mileage by about 35%.

@Bluesky KCMO did you get any mpg data before your mods? City or hwy? Elevation? Flat or hilly? What did you drive before and what kind of mileage did you get from that?

OP, unless you have reset the MPG, that's an all time running average. I like to reset my MPG average at every tank. I also zero the Trip A meter to make it easy to calculate MPG manually at every fill up. To further complicate things, I'd check that your speedometer is close to what your GPS says (Waze or Googlemaps) because if your tire size is off a little, then the calculations may be a little skewed (this seems to be a debated subject in itself).

I get 22 mpg measured at the pump around town, which is a very respectable number for a 5100lb 4x4 truck with an open bed, riding 10in off the ground, that's not a diesel. That beats every Tacoma, 4R, and FJ I’ve owned by a country mile.

However….if I created a lot more aero drag, added some additional weight in the right places, and played around with tread width & rolling resistance, then yes, I do believe that I too could probably achieve 14.2 mpg.

I’m getting between 16 and 19 on my Trailhunter. Normal driving with no interstate and mostly 50 mph and under on country roads. Don’t try to get anymore since I had a Tundra that got 12 to 13 mpg..had that truck for 8 years.. put a lot of fuel in that bad boy.. if the Trailhunter is better than my Tundra I’m a happy camper

I was hoping for anything over 20 with normal driving, to be honest, but I am actually trying to hypermile in Eco mode. That said, I think the major variable is likely the fact that I am driving back and forth into and out of the mountains. I'm waiting to do a pretty flat super-slab, like I-95 for a long ways (without traffic is the key) at around 65-70mph. That might get me advertised mpgs. Maybe.

No but you don’t get it either. Half the people commenting their mpg on this thread is irrelevant to the OP’s situation, issues, or concerns. I guess most people either don’t know how to read or like to let people know their irrelevant mpg and pretend to contribute to this thread. I’m done ✅. Thanks.

Well, it is a conversation, and a forum, not a pure data model.

OP got his answers long ago; now we're just talking "Hybrid Gas Mileage" because of OP's cleverly named thread.

Stock everything iForce Max including tires. Removed front air dam. Added cap.
Couple thousand miles without the cap. Mixed 40-60 city-highway driving.
Just wanted to add that I did not see any difference with or without the cap addition.
21.5 MPG cumulative, steady between 2000-5000 miles.
Anything that adds aero drag (like a roof rack) or road friction (different tires, inflation, etc) will affect MPG.
Is it Friday yet? It is a holiday y'know! Happy 4th.

I've always stuck with stock tires - is there any calibration for changed tire diameters?

Or would going to larger tires lessen the displayed distance covered? Granted just 1-2mpg doing some rough calculations, but a potential contributing factor.

Obviously the one that sits in the lot is going to use less gas.

I'm getting about 21-24 with a 25 TRD O/R with TRD 18 inch wheels. I bought the truck in March, put the new wheels and tires on it when I bought it, but only have 2300 miles on it in July 2025.. 90% highway driving.

I'm still stuck at 17.3 according to the truck. A few of my Costco receipts have been around 19 though. Pretty much the same since purchase in DEC. 5000 miles in so far. I had hoped for a bit better, but I'll admit to some spirited driving impacting that number. Also, not very flat in the PNW.
TRD OR Premium iForceMax, AluCab Contour Canopy with load bars, air dam removed.
Lift, wheels and tires are going on soon so I will be paying attention to the drop in MPG.
My 2005 TRD OR with lift & 265/75/16 E tires, ARE canopy and FrontRunner rack is at 15.9.

Not seeing anywhere that you can tell it to reset the MPG automatically gauge when the tank is filled.
I routinely reset the MPG and a trip meter at every fill up because the fuel gauge is so flakey that I don't trust it. I just do it through the MID directly using the steering wheel controls.

I checked mine on a 1000 mi trip that I do every couple of months. Was not significantly different before/after installing the smartcap (was 0.2 mpg higher with smartcap). Adding rack (with a front faring) to the cap appears to have cost me about 0.5 mpg.
