If it makes you feel better even spal fans derate when they get too hot. For a puller fan that’s a big issue.
You could pull all the glass out of the cab so air passes through to the bed easier

How did the fans not turning on leave you stranded?

Engine temp was at 225. I wasnt about to keep driving it like that. The ambient temp is so high here that if these fans aren’t turning, the truck will overheat so fast

edit: also takes forever for it to cool back down to a driveable temp. By the time I got back to the truck with the trailer the temps were still 190.

Man I'd just drive it 1.5 miles slowly but just me.
My 22 tundra tells me my trans is over temp all the time, even with an aftermarket cooler and I've never even stopped to let it cool haha. And you know once the dash light comes on its way too hot. My trans fluid is pretty cooked already, but I'll change it soon. Don't love the new tundra, the throttle delay is so bad it's unbearable. Kinda want to trade it for a 2nd gen tundra, but really I should just get an f250

I tried, but there was no getting that truck home without risking warping the heads lol. I could’ve done 100yds at a time probably but it is what it is. So frustrated with this truck.

also you’re speaking big facts about the tundra. My 2025 has horrendous pedal lag sometimes. Apparently it’s not as bad with the hybrids but I don’t want a hybrid. I’ve never gotten my trans temp higher than normal in it though, even towing the Tacoma in crazy high heat.

It's so bad, pretty frustrating to drive. Also all the electrics just make it frustrating offroad. Just got back from a 1600km road trip with the camper going way up in the alpine to see some glaciers around 8500ft.

Part of me wants to build the tundra and forget about the Tacoma. LS swapping it is my biggest regret. The suspension has been flawless. Literally flawless. I should’ve just stuck another v6 in it. So not worth all this brain damage.

Half the time I was wishing I was in a Tacoma with power haha. These trails are very tight in a tundra

I don’t do much trail stuff, usually just go fast stuff. And my Tacoma is the same width if not wider than the tundra by a good bit

idk maybe I should sell all 3 trucks and just buy teslas and be boring.

Wider at the wheels but narrower at the cab where it matters.

I just can't see the 3g tundra being any good off-road. 2g tundra for sure whoops.

The LS is a pretty straight forward swap, most prerunners run them. Not sure why you've had so many issues with yours. Sounds like it's just getting it to cool right and you're set though.

Because I’m fucking retarded lol. I didn’t do enough research, did way too many things the wrong cheaper way first, got impulsive and bought parts I shouldn’t have that didn’t really solve the issue. Ideally this Ron Davis radiator would be a custom one with the outlets on the other side relative to the fans. But I just bought one cause they’re local and in stock and didn’t realize how much it mattered.

I Still need dome lights, a functional parking brake, ABS kill switch, and a cooling system that actually functions properly. It’s just more money. But I’m very out of money because of this truck. I haven’t figured out a way for this truck to make me any money either.

How much power are you making? I would hope with all this trouble at least 350whp?

I don't know if any of my friends or myself have working parking brakes. My 4runner is manual so I use a rock or park against a tree in the mountains. ABS kill switch is easy, just pull the fuse. That's all we do. Or just rip it all out cuz it's useless anyway.
Dome lights... My 4runner doesn't even have them. The Tacoma did, but I still use my phone light a lot anyway haha.

I'd say the only thing that matters is the cooling. The rest can be worked on later when you've got some fun out of it and feel motivated.

It's nice to have the perfect Instagram truck, but honestly it's way more fun to just drive. Most of the really cool trucks you see ripping look awesome from a distance, but have all sorts of weird quirks and half finished projects in reality

I’ve stopped giving a shit about this truck being perfect. I’ve already fucked up the new paint in a lot of spots, my body panel gaps are fucked, my door cards are fucked. It’s just about being functional at this point. Struggle bus after struggle bus. For what seems like no reason. My truck worked fine in the cinders 2 months ago. No cooling issues at all. Now back at home after the gear swap trying to put miles on it, it’s fucking pissed.
