If you are going to sell it outright, I would start at $23.5K. It's a lot for a private sale and you probably wont get it unless you list it somewhere other than the newspaper. If trading it in, I would accept no less than $22K.

It will not be easy, even though it is well worth it.

i've sold alot of cars, mine and friends. nothing helps more than a full scrub down. make it shine. you dont need to detail it, but really clean it up. no dried up puddles of coffee in the cup holders, make it smell clean. wipe down the engine compartment.

mine is a 07 TRD OR DC with 50k, I was looking at a mgm sport DC last week, they were offering me 21.5 k on a trade. The values have sky rocketed since the rise in fuel.

I would ask 25k, and take no less than 24 on a access cab. You will get it.

Yeah, its a 4x4 (thanks for the catch), and I will definitely be giving it a detail before looking for a buyer.

Thank you all for your input, any ideas besides the paper where I should look for posting the truck?

I am really wanting to sell this a a private sale, to not get screwed by the dealers, but I have never sold a car/truck personally.

    Thanks again everyone!

if the car still has a loan, it gets mildly more complicated.

i've always held a title on the vehicles i have sold. and only bought cars that the seller owned outright. no experience on a bank being caught in the middle.

    good luck.

how will this help? you have another car that is paid off? or you have to buy a cheaper vehicle?

I will be able to get the title on the truck before the sale, I just will have to be committed on getting rid of it as it will strap me down financially until the sale.

As for the help, I am going to try a year without a car/truck and save on payments, gas, and insurance. I am most likely going with Zipcar for when I absolutely need something as there is a cheap rental set up through my college.

Pay the $50 and put it up for sale on cars.com. I sold my wife's Chevy Equinox a few months back on there and it sold in 4 days. Skip the paper. Craigslist is another good spot.

those bb values seem a little low...I have a friend who is the sales mngr at a subaru dealer here in SLC and he just told me they just gave someone 23,500 for a 2008 dbl cab TRD with 44K miles on it.

That is helpful to know incase I decide to go through a dealer to avoid the hassle and having to pay off the loan before sale. I imagine that was on a trade in, and I know that a dealer wouldn't offer nearly as much if I want to sell it outright as they would on a trade in.

    Thanks everyone!

Will look into cars.com as well!

Craigslist is great for selling cars ~ Its free, you can post in surrounding large markets (Boise, Denver, Vegas, etc.) and lots of people shop it. Make sure to post good photos and provide detailed info. Save all your text, and re-post every couple of days to keep on top of the list.

I had my 2007 wrangler on craigslist and also on the ebay local classifieds which is free. I got calls from both and sold it pretty quickly. The ebay local classifieds, which is within 200 miles i believe, was free also. good luck.
