    Hello,
I just upgraded my tires with 17 inch falcon wheels.
I bought some old 17 inch wheel to put it under the bed, but the stock spare tire carrier is too small, so I couldn't put my spare tire under the bed.

Is there any upgrade option available so that my regular 17 inch wheel can be securely installed under the bed?

    Thanks,

What size is the tire? I know your rim is 17 inches but we need some more info.

Is the problem the wheel (unlikely) or the tire (likely)? If the latter, is it the top tabs that drop down from the X-shaped crossmember that are preventing it from being lifted it all the way? If so, cut them off or hammer them up and out of the way.

are you saying the stock lifting mechanism is too small for the hub hole in the wheel? If so what's the centerbore hole size... should be around 106mm.
edit: You mentioned you got "some old 17" wheel." Are you sure it fits the truck?

I fit a 17” wheel just fine under there.

Yeah exactly. Thanks for clearing it up. For the old 17 inch wheel, the center bore hole size is about 3 inches, but the shop didn't want to put it on, as the person thought it was too heavy and not tight enough

The little thing that drops down and hooks into the tire is the same size as your hubs, which is how it fits the tire securely. I am having a hard time with the idea that a wheel can fit on the truck, but is too small for the spare tire hook. Is there a center hub cap piece or something, that you can remove?

A picture of the problem, or at least the wheel with a tape measure across the hole would help immensely.

Finally, did you change your overall tire size when you went to 17s? There's no reason you can't just use the original spare, it's just for temporary use anyway.

Yeah I upgraded all wheels to 17 inch wheels. My previous wheels were stock 15inch wheels, and my spare was 20 years old as well, so I got rid of it. I do believe this additional old wheels will also fit on my 5x4.5 lug pattern, but I was told that the spare carrier is too small and won't be able to hold this additional regular wheels securely. Should I just get another spare tire with 17 inch size and have it installed under the bed? That will be lighter.

Wheel center bore hole size on my 2nd gen is 106mm (4.17") What model and year is your truck?

If you'll get under the truck and look at how things work, I think you'll find you were told wrong.
