And yet some people have dogs they raise and the dogs are fine... and others have multiple dogs that have problems. The dogs in one house don't have any concern and in a different house they are going crazy.

This and of course it’s a combination

if the human is fearful the dog will follow

our two cats. Brother and sister. Raised together from tiny kittens. One has no fear of booms, other must find the tightest spot to squeeze into for protection

Dogs over the last 50 varied. This beast she hasn’t a care. We stayed up late and she loved it

I’m not debating. Just saying what is already in any domestic animal. That being said there are breeds that can be taught to disregard sharp piecing audio. Labs, spaniels beagles. All sporting canines. That’s all I’m saying. Seen it, lived it.

No one knows why some dogs (and cats)are afraid of fireworks, gun shots, thunder etc. I’ve had dogs my entire life and for the last 40+ years have had trained hunting dogs (Labrador retrievers). My hunting dogs have been trained to not be “gun shy” since they were puppies. In fact they love the sound of the blast from a shotgun because it means they get to do their favorite thing - retrieve something. None of my labs have been bothered by fireworks. Other dogs I’ve had were definitely upset by fireworks and one would go absolutely crazy, trying to dig through walls to get away. I think more dogs than not are bothered and afraid of fireworks to varying degrees. Some dogs go nuts during thunderstorms. So everyone with pets needs to be prepared during this time of year to take care of their pets and hold them close.
I know some people get medication from their vets for 4th of July that calms them There’s also something called thunder shirts. It’s a snug fitting t shirt for dog that calms them during fireworks time. Don’t know why they work but they do , but not for all dogs). Take care of your pets, they are family.

This dog is afraid of nothing. Trained attack pool?

    No problem

My wife and I rode down to the local train station today, I took the old Hercules 3-Speed, she took her 1996 vintage Trek 750 with something like 27-gear combinations; I was still faster downhill and on the flats, she was decidedly faster up the steeper hills. I'll be taking a week off between jobs, so we'll be do a full dress rehearsal during that week, ride to the station, take the train into Washington DC (with the bikes in the dedicated bike car), ride around DC for a few hours, and then reverse the trip to get back home.

I'm not personally a fan of lots of accessories on my bikes, but given the volume of vehicular and pedestrian traffic I'll be encountering during my commute, I bought a mirror and a bell for the Hercules. I don't think I've had a bell on any bike of mine since, geez, maybe 1962. o_O

I've got a couple more old 3 speeds to refurbish. One is called a Robin hood, kinda rare, never seen another one. And I have an old Montgomery wards too. I might have another schwinn 3 speed but I'm not really sure. I do have a 1960 schwinn corvette 3 speed I'll be restoring but I'm keeping that one. It's 65 years old now, like me.

Beautiful day on the water this morning. I went early as usual, the crowds started showing up as I headed home....Just how I like it.

The Pelicans were out in big numbers, buzzing me as they looked for fish then they dove in to get them.

Of course there is clean up work to be done after being on the ocean.

I do love the Pacific Ocean, I'm glad I live next to it. . In my past I have been a SCUBA diver, windsurfer, sailor, body surfer, even did ocean swimming for a period of time until I found the theme music from Jaws playing in my head each time I was swimming offshore alone.

Interesting; just today my wife told me she bought a "Monkey-Wards" 3-Speed in lime green back in the late 1960s; she wishes she still had it. What is the frame size of the unit you're restoring? You may already have found a buyer.

Then there is my Hercules; do you do restorations for other folks? If so I'll be in Michigan in September for my 50th high school reunion; I'd be happy to pay you well to do a restoration on it.

Regarding the Hercules mods for today; as mentioned above, as much as I hate accessories and bling on my bicycles, today I bought a mirror and bell because of the vehicular and pedestrian rich environments I'll be riding the old girl in; here is a shot of my latest additions:

Bike stuff getting back to normal prices. I can’t seem to give away one of my wife’s bikes she never rides. Nearly new.

I grew up in the bay area and spent a lot of time in Santa Cruz and all the beaches north up to Half Moon Bay. Spent a lot of time too further north at Stinson Beach. Was both a surfer and body surfer. Before I had my own surf boards I use to rent them at O’Neill’s Surf Shop in Santa Cruz. Lot of good memories hanging out on the board walk and meeting girls and surfing.

A mirror and a bell are always a good thing. A bell alerts pedestrians that you are coming up behind them. At this time I'm gonna say maybe on taking on any work, restorations take a great deal of time. I plan to retire from the rat race the end of this month but I need some time to figure things out and make plans for what I need to do. I have a general idea and plan but there is a lot of uncertainty and I'm not really sure of things right now.
So I'm not saying no, I'm saying maybe.

The wards is a blue women's 3 speed. I have not gone thru it yet. It's going to need all new cables and tires.
