yea i am, they have a spacer to mount in between the camper and the rails, then another spacer between the tailgate and the door. It works pretty ok, the tricky part is finagling some of the gaps on the rear door

i ended up taking my tailgate cover off and glueing and screwing the tailgate spacer from the inside, the black sikaflex 221 along the mated surfaces

its held up really well. Its heavy duty stuff. My last load from home depot i had x4 6x6 8' pressure treated landscape timbers on it. Thats not a one-off thing either

but with that said, you'll need to do some fine-tuning on it, unless they've come up with a different solution since

 

I wouldn't think it would be an issue. Its still a bulb seal on top of the bed rails and then adjustable clamps. Should be good to go.

 

How thick is that spacer, @tacomavan? It looks pretty substantial.

Modifications are required to allow the GFC's rear door to close with the KBVoodoo caps, so I figure it would be best to check if that was the same case here. I think it's because the tailgate cap sticks out further than the OEM plastic cap?

Interesting. I guess I can understand the spacer on the tailgate (although you'd think a different bulb seal would do the trick), but why's the spacer on the bedsides necessary? Was the overhang too close to the cab, or maybe not enough room to torque down the bedrail clamps? The camper on a 3rd gen with OEM bedside/tailgate caps (which are roughly similar to what a 2nd gen looks like with the KBV caps) doesn't appear to have any need for spacers.

 

I still don't get it, why are the spacers needed? Aren't you just replacing the plastic caps with the KB ones? And the bracket for the seal on the rear door is adjustable.

 

The KB caps put the bedsides more or less flush with the tailgate on the second gen (the bedsides are normally a little bit higher - maybe 3/16" at most). The only other reason I can think of would be if there's a roof rack over the cab that needed more clearance.

 

After looking more at the pics, maybe its due to the bed rails? Are they higher up inside the bed on the 2nd gens? I have seen some 2G's cut their roof racks to make room but I thought the 3G's were supposed to be fine?

 

Yep. That looks like that's the issue. Definitely will be asking them more questions, because I don't want any spacers in there.

edit: Based on this, though, it doesn't look like there's any spacer required for a second gen with OEM caps?

 

They emailed me back: "You will need to put the OEM caps back on. The lower profile of the KBVoodoo caps will cause the camper to rest on the flange that is designed to sit inside of the bed, instead of on the caps."

Figure I was going to have to pull the caps regardless for waterproofing, so no biggie. Somebody will buy the caps, I'm sure.

 

Just purchased a new-to-me Super Pacific (pics coming soon).

Does anyone here run a HEST mattress in their tent? Can you keep a fitted sheet/flat sheet/and a thin blanket up there with it? Or is it that you can barely close it with just the mattress inside as it is?

Anyone have measurements or rack recommendations for the 4th gen?

 

Made the trip to EXPO PNW and what an absolute blast...catching up with tons of SP friends and fam!! We definitely got our steps in during the event! And per usual...coming back from EXPO had me inspired and the build out is going to be getting a make over that is going to be game changing (more to come on that)!!

Central Indiana. I was planning on doing a two week trip this year anyway, so this works out.

 

September should be a good time to make that trip.
