60+ year old thread.

I'll probably get to my brother's place in Brooklyn (just east of Jackson) on or about the 7th of September; I'll probably work at least a few of the days that week from the Google offices in Ann Arbor, and then Friday and Saturday the reunion activities take place in the Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills area; heading back to Maryland on Sunday the 14th. I don't suppose any of those areas are near you.

My mower guy says he can take an old satellite dish off my roof. He used to work as a roofer. Been waiting for a while... hope he can get to it soon. He's very particular about his work. I have a couple new leftover shingles... maybe a good place to use them, IDK. I'll stay off the roof, as ordered.
Large coon on the deck yesterday in broad daylight. I'll set out a trap. They're not hard to catch, when they're hungry... which is 24/7.

 

Good morning. Went to the local farmers market yesterday and bought some produce for dinner. Gassed up the wifes car and then stayed home and cooked dinner. broke in my sisters new grill with the cook. Sorry I updated the phone and cannot find the rotation tool.

Both of my Cats were bored this morning and they tried their best in trying to wake me up . They started making noise at 0445hrs . My 16 yr old Cat " Rascal" is very smart and knows how to activate one of my Ring security camera's

She knows that if she walks near the security camera's it will alert my my phone . She walked by the camera 10x'sthis morning


I was able to sleep in until 0700hrs

Driving a 2008 Tacoma V6.....currently has 297K miles.

Back in 2008, purchased brand new, drove it off the dealership lot and never looked back and still going strong in 2025!

I took the 1982 Trek out for a ride today and managed a very hilly 20.62 miles; my longest ride in 35 years! As I was riding down into a deep river cutting (a very wide creek in reality), I hit 37 mph indicated and I knew I was going to be hating life on the way back up.



And before you ask, yes, my legs are a big rubbery and I am saddle sore.

 

I've never understood the gearing on bikes... If I'm going up a hill and have to go to a gear so low that it's hard to balance on the bike and I could go faster getting off and pushing the bike... what good are those super low gears? And by the same token, if I get to the highest gear and have more push... why isn't there a taller gear?
I could probably live with a five speed bike if it was geared right.
I've never seen a tall enough gear on level ground...

 

My old touring bike only has 18-speeds (3x6), in the lowest gear I can ride faster than I can walk, especially when I'm carrying a lot of pack weight (I'm thinking climbing a mountain ridge on the south island of New Zealand in 1990); things got so steep on that climb I tried pushing the bike up the hill, nope, bad idea, I got back on and rode the rest of the way up. On the way down the other side, you're right, ain't no amount of gearing would have made me go any faster; I hit an indicated 75 mph, even with all of the wind resistance of the paniers.

For more normal rides, efficient gearing allows you to maintain an optimal pedal cadence (100-110 rpms) regardless of the incline; when riding my 3-speed it takes me about 12- to 14-minutes to get to the place where I had my radiation treatments last fall; on my old touring bike, which weights roughly the same amount, I do that distance in as little as 8-minutes.

 

Ugh.. toss and turn night. Don't understand why sometimes I don't sleep. Nothing different than a sleep like a log night. it's a PIA, sometimes.
Moving on... grass will need cut soon. Hopefully my mower guy will take an old satellite dish off the roof while he's here. He doesn't communicate very well, but he always shows up.

 

So ignoring the culprit worked.
Better hope Rascal does not teach Gunny the camera trick. LIL

Welcome to the thread. Nice looking Tacoma. I have an 08 in Black Metallic. I had the opportunity to polish and wax a Desert Sand Mica Tacoma and it is a beautiful color, one of my favorites.

Good morning: today I am back home from the beach. We returned early yesterday morning to be in the first wave of returning beach traffic.
Today I will be smoking a 4 beef rib plate. The 4 rib plate presents the problem of the 4th rib being smaller than the other 3. i would prefer a 3 rib plate but since I rarely do beef ribs I am up to the challenge.
Back to a walking program. My left leg is getting back to normal. Yesterday I was able to get in and out of the wifes car without lowering the seat back.

Good morning all. Scheduled today off work to make a nice 4-day weekend and 2 x 4-day work weeks.

I had a plan to ride an Iron Butt 4th of July ride on Friday but on Thursday I just started feeling like I shouldn't do it. No real reason and I've never had any anxiety issues just a weird feeling. Figured I should listen to it so scrapped that plan and can always do it next year. I did get a nice ride in on Friday and went to visit my brother for a little. He's in a rehab facility currently. He had a stroke over a year ago and is showing signs of Parkinsons and now, sadly dementia. Visit was good. He knew who I was and that was good.
