I've actually read through your post multiple times. Super helpful information thank you. Looks like a long frustrating road ahead, it is what it is.

I did a lot of research on them and they have been very communicative and helpful. Talked to Rich at Action and he seems like a nice/honest guy but like you mentioned a bit difficult to communicate with. I'm sure he does good work but after all this BS I decided on the shop that is easier to deal with.

Yeah, he comes across as rough....
Read some reviews from action where things take longer than promised...
But he also has the most reviews in town....

Back in the day Ricks Machine Shop built everyones performance engines but I feel that outfit is bit dated on knowledge these days.....

Talked with small claims advisor they advised that getting an engine rebuild and seeking payment for it due to crankshaft damage would be tough. Getting crank replaced and presenting receipt for just the crank is one thing but doing a full engine rebuild makes things trickier.

Might do just the crank replacement with bearings roads etc from Toyota. Seems like that would be simplest to present to a judge.

Toyota also quoted me an extra 1,200 for a Jasper (maybe JARCO?) short block.

Any issue with replacing crank and crank components only?
My thinking is if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, and I know my engine ran well before (not burning oil, it’s never ran hot, no knocking) The OEM pistons, rings, etc already in my engine are the best quality I’ll get.

But - a new short block sounds appealing as well. And having it installed by Toyota for $1,200 seems like a good deal

    I wouldnt!
You have the engine out, has high mileage, etc....
You could explain to the shop you need 2 seperate bills....
have them write 1 invoice to remove engine, replace crank & reinstall engine for say $4k....
Then a seperate invoice, to machine block / cylinders, install new rings, rebuild heads, for $2k...

You explain the scenario, he will understand.
    hopefully
    seems easy enough.

just say need a seperate invoice as fighting with the shop to get the to cover the crank damage the y cause & must be an individual invoice

Totally makes sense that it needs to be itemized as you cant expect the shop to pay for a complete rebuild.
But majority of the work is R&I the engine & replacing the crank, thats the grunt of the labor.
Youre not replacing the crank while the engine is still in the truck.
