FYI, best month to buy a new car is December. Just in case you're thinking about a new Gen 4 Tacoma, like me.

Based on AI analysis and expert opinions, the best months to buy a car generally fall within the last quarter of the calendar year (October, November, and December).
Here's why these months are considered optimal:

Year-end sales goals: Dealers are motivated to meet their annual sales quotas and offer better deals to move inventory.
Model changeovers: As new model years are introduced (often in the fall), dealers offer discounts on older models to make room for new arrivals.
Holiday deals: Holiday sales events (like Black Friday and year-end promotions) can offer attractive incentives and financing options.

Specifically, December is often cited as a particularly good month to buy, with significant discounts available, especially towards the end of the month. However, this popularity can also lead to limited inventory, so flexibility in your preferences is recommended.

    Your mileage may vary.

Worst time is April through August:

Based on the provided information, AI-powered tools and experts point to the following as potentially the worst times to buy a new car:
    • Spring (specifically April through August): Warmer weather and tax refund season often lead to increased demand, making dealers less likely to offer discounts. Yahoo Finance notes April as a potentially bad time for used car purchases, while CBT News specifies June as a month with fewer deals for new vehicles. The Oklahoma Central Credit Union also advises against buying in the spring due to higher demand.
    • Beginning of a new model year: When new models are released, demand is high, and dealerships are less motivated to lower prices on the latest vehicles.

    To OP post:
If my memory serves me right - Dec. 23- local dealership had a brand new 23 octane Pro listed at msrp. I was thinking man! I better jump on that …then, reading the room, it was like the timing could not be worse.
5 months later (April 2024) I pulled the trigger on a used white 22 Pro with 18k miles for more money than the 23 Pro. I can sometimes forget the regret knowing that the 22 came pretty much loaded with every available factory option, and that it is still a nice truck. Oh, and that I’m still married.

I've bought 2 cars end of year, it really doesnt matter but it may make you feel better about things.

The thing that determines price is inventory and demand.

If there's no inventory and high demand, you get shafted and no wiggle. Like Sienna HV during Covid. Didnt matter the day of the year.

If there's too much inventory and low demand you get negotiation power, like the 23 tacoma access cabs. We were giving them away once they got in 2024.

Perhaps as I bought my 2017 in December 2016 after Christmas and end of the month. The lot was also packed at the time with 30+ new Tacoma's in similar build configurations.

Lately, I haven't had any trouble getting dealers to knock their prices down and boost their offer on my trade. Interest rates are high and they're eager to sell. If you want a high demand vehicle or high demand trim level prices still averaging msrp +ttl.

There's this AI tab on the browser all it does is get in the way when I try to open a new tab. What good is that? It's just an annoyance.

It's bad enough when I search for something and I get fake conversions van content that will never be made. There is no value in fake AI content.

Starting a thread with an just AI blurb or a youtube video without any meaningful original commentary is pointless.
    I dont get it.
    Use your words.

I do see some other forums allowing (or even perpetuating) AI bots creating garbage content. It's gross, IMO.

The last couple of days of ANY month could be your opportunity.
It all depends on where they stand on their monthly quota vs the manufacturer incentives.

What about actual needs? I realize many here have a strong hobby/identity thing going on with the light truck passion but exactly a year ago I saw what would be a near perfect mostly from long bed and features gen 4 incoming, struck a good deal, and I have no regrets. Last July through early fall had several times where I'd have had to incur some significant rental expenses plus inconvenience if I didn't have my own long bed pickup.

Best time to buy a vehicle is when you don't need to buy anything.

My ignore list is empty and always has been. People I disagree with on core beliefs don't bother me. Trolls, contrarians, misanthropes, and argumentative circle jerks don't bother me either. People who start threads with an AI cut/paste however, fundamentally bother me. I can't even tell you why - no wait, after thinking about it, I can. Its not entertaining, its not inflammatory, and its not producing helpful knowledge. Its just nothing. Its a rice cake of a post: not nutritional and not filling, just a completely pointless thing to chew on.

I think I'm going to have to start using my ignore list.

I have no comment here, but see the AI response, go figure:

“I find that this thread does not enrich the owners forum experience to new satisfaction levels. Perhaps instead re-posting a hastily-crafted YouTube video of an unemployed content creator declaring the Toyota Tacoma to be a failure will instead generate the desired passionate responses from Toyota Tacoma owners and enthusiasts”
