Lately, I've been getting the message that Google Maps can't display 3D buildings because the phone is too hot. Huh? I've got the phone on a magsafe disc on top of the built in charger so it's not lying flat, it is stood off by the thickness of the disc. I may have to figure out a way to vent the A/C over the phone.

Or a short USB-C cable and charge it that way. Should keep the temps down. I find the wireless charging is OK for short times. Phone gets warm on our CRV too when using charging pad, although I've never had it shut down due to heat. Mine came with an $80 accessory bag of some charging cables, maybe you got that to and can find one in there that will work? :D

Do you need 3D buildings? Turn it off problem solved. If it's a customer with this issue tell them they're an idiot and figure out how to get around with out a phone. This is the dumb stuff that Consumer Reports gets complaints on and scores the Tacoma low on initial quality.

Sounds like it's a problem with your phone, not the truck.

Do you have an Android or iPhone? What model is it?
What other software are you running that may be causing the processor and graphics to be running generating heat in addition to the heat caused by charging?

Are you using CarPlay/Android auto? Is the phone screen on? Full brightness?

So many questions and in the end, it's an issue with your phone, not the truck.

I agree. Makes it more confusing when you posted that CR "article" last week and talked about how "these articles are helpful because it gives you input about other people's experiences with the new truck"

I wasn't arguing with you about posting the article. I was trying to argue that the quality or value of the input was pretty useless. .. seems like most of the complaints against the new model are made by people that can't even read the owner's manual

Wireless charging creates more resistance (heat) when charging because it’s not a wired connection. When your phone heats up, the processor in your phone heats up. When that happens it has to “underclock” the processor so the processor doesn’t overheat and blow up.
When it has to limit the amount of processing power it’s capable of producing, you lose features - in your case 3D rendering - until the temperature cools down.
I’m sure someone smarter than me could explain this much better but that’s the gist.

    That’s good point as well.
Basically OP, phones don’t have any active cooling measures. It’s like opening 1,000 tabs in google chrome and turning your computer fans off and then trying to play GTA V. Something’s gotta give.

The whole wireless charging thing just seems a little weird to me. Like how is that not showering the entire cabin with radiation?

I know BT and wifi emit radiation too but the energy required to physically charge the battery without a wired connection has to have some side effects.
The phone is getting hot.. lord knows what's happening to your testicles :anonymous:

Is it really that much trouble to hook up a cord? Seems like a solution in search of a problem. I don't get it

Not hooking up a wire is more convenient than hooking up a wire. I've also had USB ports go bad long before the rest of the phone did. wireless charging is just electromagnets; nothing scary there.

You bring up a valid point. I don’t think we have a full understanding of the way Bluetooth Wi-Fi and cellular effect cells when they radiate. Wireless charging bleeds EMF radiation and I’m not sure we know how much, how strong, and what effect it has on us long term.
Likely it will be like plastic 2.0. use a thing for 30 years and then realize it’s bad. We’reall guinea pigs in that sense

Maybe look up the difference between ionizing and non-ionizing radiation before y'all start getting preventative cancer screenings and tinfoil hats.

Please don't spread baseless theories intended to create fear. People have a tendency to believe nonsense without verifying it.

Radiation is just transfer of energy. Ionizing radiation is the end of the spectrum which has obvious dramatic health effects. X rays, gamma rays etc. Moving down the power scale of the electromagnetic spectrum you pass visible light before getting to the gigahertz/10^9 Hz (wifi, bluetooth) range.

Any time there is current, a magnetic field is induced. Wireless charging uses the opposite principle. Create a magnetic field and induce current to charge. In terms of the amount of power needed, perhaps half again more power is needed for wireless charging than for corded, for reasons I don't know. But if you're usually charging at 20W, maybe 30W is used in wireless charging. Many TVs use 200W.

So if you're worried about radiation from wireless charging causing you any health effect, don't let visible light anywhere near you ever because it's closer on the spectrum to ionizing radiation. And don't have an electric TV, refrigerator or computer because they all use much more power and create more of this "radiation" you fear.

First off, mine is made of aluminum foil. And secondly, it’s a custom handmade piece. Jealously is a sin sir.

Never thought I would get a science lesson on radiation on TW.
    Thank you sir.

fun fact: all USB chargers function wirelessly and all of them use electromagnetic induction. The only difference is "wired" USB chargers use electromagnetic induction in the 120 to 12v step down transformer in the wall wort itself rather than using electromagnetic induction to get the energy into your phone. Functions exactly the same.

    @Thegreatgretz

my guy, I'm not posting with the intent to "create fear" or "spread baseless theories". I'm just chatting, calm the fuck down

Yes I'm obviously uniformed about this stuff but that doesn't mean I have nefarious intent.

If you're that upset I'll delete the post geez
