That's horrible. Yes, be prepared to go to war with your GEICO claims rep. Gather all ur receipts and pics, pics and more pics of the truck, any mods, after market accessories, etc.

I have heard unpleasant stories from ppl regarding GEICO. You may want to switch to a more loyal ins company like State Farm after you settle your loss claim with them.

    Good luck!

On the upside, the fair market value for a used 2019 Tacoma may be more than what he paid for the stock truck when new.

It's interesting to see the truck go back to Tijuana, where it was made.

Unfortunatly they do this for a living EVERY day, you will do this maybe once in your life, having said that do you have other transportation? If not they will out wait you, they do not care about your inconvience. When you filed your claim you started a legal process and a time clock, they have a finite number of days to settle with you or they are dealing in bad faith. I had a 76 F250 4X4 that I restored and was stolen a number of years ago. I had it inspected before the policy was issued and the report was sent to the insurance company. The truck was stolen 2 months later and I put ~6k miles on it. They used those miles for depreciation at what the IRS uses for business milegae dedutions, that is fair. I ended up with a check for a little over $9k because I stuck to the process. I was at their main office 2 days before the dealing in bad faith deadline and I let them know. They capitulated and did not want to go to court as I had all my receipts and THIER inspection report. Good luck.

Unfortunately without appraised value or a separate rider policy for parts and/or goods inside the truck you are learning a hard lesson here.

Ceramic coating is usually covered, but dependent on carrier of course.

My carrier covers my full ceramic coating/PPF/tint. $0 deductible glass policy which covers windshield replacement and replacing the tint. Basically you pay to get the windshield re-tinted and they issue a reimbursement check.

These are life lessons unfortunately, and usually you don't learn them until after you've been completely bent over a few times. Things they should teach you in school but don't, but also you have no idea of perceived value when you are young so it's probably pointless anyways.

With all this said, give Collision Safety Consultants a call. Ask to talk to Billy. Usually their work is more tailored towards wrecked/totaled vehicles after accidents but I'm sure they have plenty of experience on this side of the house as well.

    https://collisionsafetyconsultants.com/

The website is junk, but look at their google reviews.

items inside the car is a homeowners claim. also because that is how it works
CCC can include these comps and 99% of the time it will not make a difference. but you cna ask.

bingo. $5000 volk wheels? CCC will give you $500... in his case the truck was stolen but i always told my insureds to go get 4 donuts and keep their expensive aftermatket wheels
again, 10% if you're lucky. there is no war. adjusters do not give a fuck about how much a claim pays. they are all understaffed and overworked. all they want to do is to pay your claim and move on.

yeah they definitely did not care about your $9k claim or your threats

    +1 but also that 10%

typically an insane waste of time. at liberty i had less than a dozen people request the appraisal clause in claims

appraisal clause means if you disagree with the ACV our third party (CCC) came up with on the vehicle we would hire another 3rd party and you would hire another 3rd party to go out to copart to do their own independent appraisal of the vehicle. those two appraisers would compare notes and come to their own ACV of the vehicle and that would be binding. also, you have to pay for your appraiser (which was about $700..)

in all but one of those cases the value came back lower than ours. in the one case it came back higher it was like $500 higher so in the end they lost money because they had to pay for the appraisal.

Because of these experiences I try to drive old trucks with not much value except to me. I do have a new Frontier I bought for business depreciation but everything else in the stable is at least 20 years old.

This sounds like it's going to be one more blow on top of losing my truck; I won't even be able to replace it? For example, there are very few of this spec. truck for sale with low mileage.

From looking at replacement costs (without labor), I'm seeing about $39K for the only similar truck online and $12K for components. Any advice to have the best chance of being able to replace the truck with the "same" one? Just a little heartbroken since this was my dream truck, saved for it and bought it new, and just installed all the modifications mostly in the last 6 months.

It has been my experience that insurance companies go by book value. They put very little value on add ons.

dude i get it, it sucks. insurance basically has to go by the policy language you signed up for otherwise they open themselves up to other people "oh this guy got hooked up why can't i get hooked up".

if the base ACV is lower than you think it should be i would definitely ask the adjuster to do a 3 way call with CCC to re-run all the comps. CCC's automated system typically only pulls the same year and trim model as your vehicle but sometimes it will lump in lesser trims. once you get them on the phone they can manually re-run it to see if the value goes up.

you can also submit all of the receipts but i would not expect more than around that 10% on the dollar. most policies will also have a limit in the policy language regarding aftermarket parts, most of the liberty/safeco policies had $500-1000 as a limit. in the future you should look into an aftermarket parts endorsement.

again, just keep in mind the adjuster doesn't want to fuck you over. they do not get anything for underpaying your claim. they are judged on how fast they pay your claim. they want to do whatever they can to make as happy enough as they can so you go away as quickly as possible so they can get yelled at by the other 49 people behind you.

Although I’ve never had a vehicle stolen (knock on wood) I hide an AirTag in all of my trucks. As for GEICO, I had them over a decade but never filed a claim. I switched when they got too expensive for me.

Yes, Ive dealt with this too....
My chick had like $5k worth of equestrian equipment in my expedition one night, parked on the street....
    Everything was stolen....
The home policy took care of replacement...

Mileage was a big hang-up for me, my 00 expedition had 130k on it, low for a 00 & everything else out there had 200k+ in regards to comps...
They tell you the take that into consideration, compensate, etc...
but end of the day, theyre about keeping money in their pocket.
Well, thats how I saw it.....
    Was a very unfair process...
