I dunno, that seems pretty normal for a little kid. If you have a 15 year old ditching real life friends for a traffic cone friend then there might be an issue lol.

    Thanks!

It's actually my first time cutting 3/8" aluminum

I tried getting some from one of my local metal shops but they insisted on only selling me by the sheet (4' x 8')

So I ran this at 30ipm and 45amps

Unless it's water jet or laser, it'll always be grainy. Though I wonder if different aluminum types will yield cleaner edges.

    @Bandido

One thing I often hear being suggested for aluminum is using nozzle gel (used for mig guns) on your deflector shield. I never needed any for welding which is why I don't have any but holy shit I wish I had some for aluminum cutting!

Every pierce would shoot up a ton of aluminum (landed on my arm, it burns) and much of it stuck to the deflector. During the rapids, I would quickly wipe off the aluminum that was on there before it pierced the next cutout.

I've had success with a short pierce delay but a long lead in to reduce spatter in that sense.

thats about the same setting I use to cut 3/8, maxes out my machine!! and my edges still don't look even that good, I blame my air lol, not enough room in the garage for a refrigerated drier... and my Wife wants to get an oven to PC stuff

I ran a 0.5 second pierce delay on this 3/8" aluminum.

For 3/16" and below I run 0.1 second but that's all mild steel.

You know you need refrigerated air, everyone in the CNC world does! Need that shit as dry as possible.

I know I do lol, my problem is space more than equipment cost.... space cost is a lot lol. (not relative to socal, but still)

I run like .5s on 3/16 mild, and much shorter and it will not fully pierce

Could get an absurdly large multistage desiccant drier like we have. Thing is good for painting in the Georgia heat even haha

I probably should put more gravity loops than I have... I did an after cooler to a basic separator/filter drier, to a gravity loop, to tank, then filter/seperator/dessicant to the out line.

the gravity loop/aftercooler work amazingly when the ambient temp of the garage is below the dew point.... which is very rare unfortunately, especially in the summer

You're a smart dude; getting better capable tools means making better parts you'd be ok with manufacturing (for sale)

Granted you gotta weigh out your return on investment so it makes sense, but you might find yourself making stuff for sale you hadn't originally considered

Didn't you get a pay increase? Fiber laser should be pennies for you ;)
